You can choose from a variety of dorm-style rooms. The most popular is our “shared room” for two students. Living on campus is highly recommended but not required for first-year undergraduate students.

You’ll have the chance to get used to university-style teaching on a wide range of specialized academic courses to help you get up to speed with your chosen degree. You’ll also get practical help and support so you can easily adapt to your new life on campus, make friends, and get the most out of the American way of life.

As a student of the ISC, you will be part of the university from the day you start your program. As well as benefiting from resources at the ISC, you will be fully integrated as a UMaine student.

Programs at the ISC are delivered by Study Group, in partnership with the University of Maine. The Study Group ISC delivers the English for Academic Purposes courses and programs, and the Univesity of Maine delivers the academic, credit-bearing courses.

InternationalYear1(IY1)The ISC delivers an IY1 program providing pathways that lead to nearly 30 undergraduate degrees and concentrations. Depending on your program type, you’ll spend 4-16 months at the ISC and the remaining three years (of your four-year undergraduate program) in the main campus. Most students spend eight months at the ISC.

Pre-Master’sProgram(PMP)This short program combines English for academic purposes, study skills for graduate-level coursework and orientation into the U.S. university system leading to 15 graduate degree programs. Additionally, PMP students take academic, pre-requisite courses that are relevant to their area of study, while earning undergraduate level credit for these courses.

EnglishforAcademicPurposes(EAP)In addition to your academic courses, as an ISC student, you’ll join our renowned EAP course.

DirectentryIf you meet the appropriate language and academic requirements of UMaine, you’ll be eligible to apply for direct entry to any degree program. Rest assured, the ISC is here to help you with your application. The minimum entry requirements for direct admission:

As a student in this one- or two-semester program, you’ll combine English for academic purposes, study skills for graduate level coursework and orientation into the U.S. university system. You’ll also take academic, pre-requisite courses that are relevant to your area of study. Students receive undergraduate credit for these courses. Additionally, GRE/GMAT preparation lessons are available to all PMP students at no additional cost.

Graduate students who meet the appropriate language and academic requirements can apply for Direct Entry to any graduate program offered at UMaine. The ISC will be able to help you with your application.

GMAT/GREscoresWhile GMAT/GRE scores are not a pre-requisite of any of our PMPs, we strongly encourage you to obtain them. Official scores will be required prior to full matriculation into a degree program. For the MBA, we’re looking for a minimum score of GMAT 550.

1 English for Academic Purposes + 3-semesters.

2 Additional tuition fees (payable directly to University of Maine) are charged for any prerequisite courses that must be incorporated into the Pre-Master’s Program.

3 Students are automatically enrolled in the university health insurance plan unless proof of alternative insurance is shown prior to arrival.

4 UMaine cannot guarantee on-campus housing. Applicants should request on-campus housing at time of application. Requests cannot be guaranteed, but will be accommodated depending on availability. Resident meal plan includes three meals per day.

5 Transfer directly to UMaine, one-way, on initial arrival. Applicants must reserve transportation prior to arrival by completing the Flight Arrival Form.
