What is The Junior Theatre Project?“Musicals: The Superfood of the Arts!” Tim McDonald

Musicals may probably be the most collaborative of all art forms and brings together many facets of the arts industry: music, singing, acting, dancing, costume design, set building, painting and lighting among others. Everyone involved has a role to play (large or small) and their role is integral to the finished product – whether they are on stage or off. Each person learns responsibility, collaboration, respect, self-confidence & co-operation – and these vital life-skills are just the beginning.

Seeing a need to make musicals more accessible and attainable for kids of all ages Music Theatre International in conjunction with Hal Leonard Australia have developed a collection of musicals tailor-made for young performers. Some of our popular titles and shows in development include:

What does the Train the Trainers Intensive involve?A full day of workshops for Music, Drama, Dance and general classroom teachers and practitioners. We cover how to develop a musical theatre program in your school or musical society through practical classes and forums with leading industry professionals.

Why do the Train the Trainers Intensive?Because everyone can use a little inspiration and we can’t wait to share our learning with you!Because we’ve got answers to your challenges. Budget cuts, administrators who don’t get it, dealing with parents, recruiting talent, selecting the perfect musical, properly managing resources – we cover it all!Because everyone needs to recharge their batteries. It’s important to remember why you started doing musicals with kids in the first place and to renew that passion.Because nobody else teaches you how. There is no other program anywhere that teaches you how to put on a Junior musical with kids. And occasionally we all feel insecure even when we’re doing a great job. We’ll reinforce what works, and help you build skills in areas where you feel challenged.

Our Junior Theatre Project is designed to empower teachers and theatre practitioners as well as inspire and develop young performers. To read more about this initiative please visit our website.
