MicroM Flame Safeguard controls are compact, modular burnmanagementsystemsdesignedtoprovideautomaticignitionandcontinuous flame monitoring for commercial-sized heating andprocessburnersfiringanytypeoffuel.

The MicroM incorporates remote reset capability and serialcommunicationsviaMODBUS.TheoptionalED510displaycanbeused to access burner hours and cycles, system hours, the last 6lockoutswithburnercycletimestampandprogrammerconfigu-ration.MODBUScommunicationscapabilityallowstheintegrationoftheMicroMcontrolintoupperlevelenergymanagement/dataacquisitionsystems.

A complete MicroM system consists of the appropriate flamescanner/detector,plug-inamplifier,andprogrammermodulescon-nectedtoachassisandwiringbase.Interchangeableprogrammerandamplifiermodulesallowversatilityinselectingcontrolfunction,timing,andflamescanningmethod.

Allamplifiersareavailablewithflamefailureresponsetimesof0.8or3secondsnominal(4secondsmax),andeachprovideasetoftestjackswitharangeof0-10VDCforthemeasurementofflamesignalintensity.

SmartLED indicatorsonallprogrammermodules indicatethecurrentoperatingstatusofthecontrol,andduringasafetylockout,displaythefaultasacodedsequence,simplifyingtroubleshootingduringashutdown.Arun-checkswitchisprovidedontheMEP500seriesprogrammerstoassistintestingsize,position,andstabilityofthepilot.Asafetycheckingcircuitrunsoneachstart.Ifflame(realorsimulated)isdetectedpriortoastartorduringpurge,thefuelvalveswillnotbeenergizedandthecontrolwilllockout.

MicroMSubbaseMountingAdaptersTheMicroMcanfitdirectlyontoyourexistingHoneywellFlameSafeguard

mountingsubbasewiththeadditionofasinglemountingadapter.Noneedtodoanyrewiringorexpensivere-engineeringforretrofits.

ThedetectoristheheartofallZircomatsystems.Smallandeasilyde-tachable,thedetectorcanbeservicedwithoutremovingtheprobefromthefluestack.Youwon’tneedtoshutdownyourplantjusttoremovetheprobe.Areplaceablesamplegasdiffuserontheendofthedetectorprovidessensorprotection.

Theelectronictransmitterismountedinaweatherproofenclosureandreceivesthesignalsfromtheoxygendetectorviaaconnectingcable.So,thetransmittercanberemote-mountedatasuitabledistancefromtheprobeanddetectorassemblytosuittheinstallationrequirements.

The microprocessor-based transmitter has a large LED display foroxygenconcentrationanda4-20mAisolatedoutputsignalproportionaltotheuser-selectableadjustablemeasuringrange,0-2%to50%O2.It’ssimpletorunamanualorautomaticcalibrationcheckusingknownvaluegasestoflowacalibrationgasthroughthedetector’scalibrationgasport—withoutremovingthedetectorfromtheprocess.Non-volatilememoriesstorethezeroandspangasdatabetweencalibrations.

Monitoring the Calorific Value of Natural GasWhennaturalgaswascheapandplentiful,gascompaniesinstalledmechani-

callydrivenflowmeterstomeasuretheamountofenergybeingpurchasedfromthegascompany.Theseflowmetersmeasuretheactualcubicfeetofgasgoingthroughthemeter.Temperatureandpressurechangesweremechanicallycompensatedforintheflowmetertogettowhattheindustrycallsstandardcubicfeet(SCF).

As electronic equipment and computing power evolved, it became moreeconomicallyfeasibletoinstallflowmonitoringinstrumentationwithaccura-ciesof±0.25%.

Better flow measurement should mean more accurate billing.

But, the missing variable in this calculation is still the natural gas’s actualcalorificvalue,theenergycontentofthegas,whichcanvarysubstantiallyandcausebillingerrors(usuallytotheenduser’sdisadvantage).

Utilitycompaniesbilltheircustomersbasedontheassumptionthatthede-liveredgascontainsafixedamountofBritishthermalunits(BTUs)pervolume.However,testshaveshownthatBTUscaneasilyfluctuatebyasmuchas±2%.

Normally,utilitiesbillbasedonthehighestBTUvaluethatthepipelinecom-paniesdeliver.SincetheBTUvalueisfixedatthehighestrate,overpaymentisaregularoccurrence(andarevenuecowforutilitycompanies).

Users regularly pay for more energy than they actually get.

WiththeHGCseriesBTUtransmittersnowavailable,realtimeBTUmeasure-mentofnaturalgas isanaffordableoptionformostcompanies. Thisactualcontentmeasurementallowstheendusertochallengethegasutilitiesontheiractualgasconsumption.
