Using AppositivesUsing Appositives

Reminder: • Appositives can begin, interrupt,

or end a sentence. • They give extra description about

a noun; or modify the noun.

Example:• Neil Armstrong was born in Ohio.• He was the first man on the

moon. • If we use what we know about

appositives:– Neil Armstrong, the first man on the

moon, was born in Ohio.

Example: • Mr. Kelly bought a new car. • He is a tall person.• Mr. Kelly, a tall person, bought a

new car.

Example: • Meteors are often called shooting

stars. • Meteors are chunks of metal or

stone. • Chunks of metal or stone, meteors

are often called shooting stars.
