I believe my group and I did a very good job in keeping the same story line we had in our music video, and adapting it to the ancillary tasks we have created.

-When we had a look at Avril Lavigne’s album covers, we noticed that her album covers don’t seem to have anything in common with her music videos. Her album covers, mostly consist of her on the front page in a punk/pop-rock theme style.

‘The Best Damn Thing’ Album Cover

Here is a still from ‘when you’re gone’, as you can see her clothing and location don’t happen to relate to her album cover.

‘’Girlfriend’ Music Video

Than again in another music video of hers, with a song from the same album happens to relate much more to the album cover than in the previous music video. Her hair and clothing look similar to what she looks like on her album cover.

Our music video & ancillary tasks.

When my group and I began the research for our ancillary tasks, we happened to notice that most of the artists intend to have their music video very imaginative and keep their album covers pretty easy and simple.

Therefore, my group and I decided that we wanted to create a digi pack that shows the story of our music video. We decided that our album will be called ‘Secrets’ and choose to use images that reflects this. The fonts, backgrounds and themes remained the same, so that our covers can flow from front to back and therefore we also managed to keep the same style too.

We also decided that we will create our poster the way so it will work as much as possible with our album cover; we succeeded in this by using the same font, background and mise en scene that we used for our album cover.

I believe we happen to have quite a few shots in our music video where something such as keeping a secret or cheating is portrayed from the male character.

At the beginning of our narrative we see a male character texting, than a shot to a young girl smiling doing the same thing. In the next shot we understand that the two messaging each other are either a couple or their in an open relationship, from the shot of the text the boy has sent her.

In the following shot, we see the male looking to the left side and acting surprised at what he saw, therefore he decides to put his phone away. Next we see a young lady walking in, smiling at him. From here the audience understands, that there is definitely something going on, and the boy is cheating on one of the girls.

Next we see the boy putting his phone on the table and acting like nothings happening. The girl sits next to him, and puts his hand around her back. Next we see an extreme close-up of the girls hand, focusing on the ring on her finger. From here there is a clear view that the two have been in a long term relationship and are now engaged, therefore the girl sat on the bed is the one he's cheating on his fiancée with.

The way we allowed our products to match the front CD Cover, was by allowing the rest of the images from the package to flow all the way through, therefore we stuck with the same fonts, backgrounds etc. As we chosen images that supports our music video, the middle one with the lyrics next to it, is just a simple one of me sat on the wall, this allowed us to break away from our conventions.

Location.- Since our music video has mostly been filmed around our school, we decided to remain local and create the ancillary images here. As you can see in most of our ancillary images the building and wall from our music video appear in them. Since we were mostly filming on different dates, we were trying to make sure that the clothing, make up and hair were the same so we wouldn’t have something like continuity problems. For our ancillary's, we didn’t use the same clothing as the one in the video, but we stuck to the same theme, and wore converses to portray the pop-rock, and not being bare foot.

Poster.

We decided that we will pick a photo where the audience is able to see the artists facial expression, something which shows that she isn’t giving away too much on how she is feeling, and something which allows the person watching the music video in suspense of what is about to happen.

The photo on the left is a screen shot from our music video, where my facial expression is similar to the one in the poster. My group and I decided to carry on with this through the whole digi pack, because it shows the way the artist is feeling.

When we began creating the CD Cover, our fellow group mate had an idea on putting on a facial expression for the front cover which leaves the audience wondering on what is going on. They understand what’s happening when they get to see the middle cover which portrays a couple, but secretly the girl is cheating on her boyfriend with his boy best friend.

After the audience understands what the story in our music video is, and knows what is going on, my facial expressions were changing through out the time, and the audience were able to understand why was I looking upset.

Overall the theme for our music video was ‘high school prom’. We believed that this works very well with our music video, because it still relates to relationship and friendship all together, which we have happened to show in our digi pack.
