■ Timely communication for adopting preventive measures is critical for disease control. Prediction of hot spots (areas likely to have large number of cases) of malaria is critical for timely action.
■ TERI team has predicted hot spots for malaria using satellite-based data of physical parameters (vegetation, water index) and meteorological parameters (rainfall, humidity, minimum temperature and maximum temperature). These hot spots have been validated by malaria data reported at the district level.
■ Even better predictions may be achieved through higher resolution of satellite-based data, and climate parameters.
