Lagos State Alternative Energy Initiatives

Lagos Energy Demand

An Energy development agenda cannot be successfully formulated without a thorough understanding of existing infrastructure and the needs of the people.

Therefore, the state has embarked upon a state-wide energy audit whose primary aim is to collate a comprehensive database of the installed electrical capacity from the grid versus the real-time power demand of Lagosians.

The audit captures GPS, property and street information, generator(s), transformer rating, daily hourly use of generators, etc.

Lagos State Energy Audit Results:

1. Just under 10% of the power demanded by Lagosians is being met by the national grid.

2. On average, Lagosians power themselves at a cost of N44/kWh; almost 4 times the cost of supply from the national grid

3. Average number of Generating Sets per Location surveyed - 1.3

IMPACT

Over 250 young graduates across the state have been Trained and Certified as Energy Auditors.

Lagos Solar Station

Design

The Solar Station design has been finalized for all the seven styles of solar installation within the project.

Lagos Solar Station

Prototype

As a proof of concept, a 10kW system was installed at the Lagos State Electricity Board premises .

Capacity Building The Solar team that worked on design, civil works, installation, electrical upgrade and integration of the solar station were trained by the Lagos Energy Academy (LEA) in Renewable solar technology and they all received a joint certification with LEA and RENAC (Renewable School of Germany).

Solar Guidelines To ensure effective installation and longevity of the solar stations, LSEB sort to develop a standardized guidelines document

that will be utilized by various stakeholders involved in the design and installation of the solar systems in each school. This

report is titled ‘Lagos State Off-Grid Solar PV System Guidelines’

• Now in its 2nd year, the annual Energy

Conservation Month staged in October hosts a

series of events to help Lagosians preserve the

amount of energy available for use and protect

the environment Switching to Energy Saving bulbs at Lagos State Govt Secretariat has

provided energy savings of 98,906kWh annually and reduced CO2 Emissions by 1,278,444 lbs
