Explore with ColumbusNew Flagship Of The CMV Fleet

2017 heralds another exciting year for Cruise & Maritime Voyages with the addition of the impressive Columbus to our expanding fleet of four traditional cruises liners. Columbus will debut in June 2017 lining up alongside Astor, Magellan, Marco Polo, Astoria, and will become CMV’s new flagship.

Columbus will carry about 1,400 guests and is a small to mid-sized cruise liner by today’s standard. Refitted in August 2015 with further upgrading due in April 2017, she will be truly impressive. Columbus is well suited to those who prefer smaller ship benefits and a more traditional experience.

Columbus has 775 passenger cabins including 75% ocean view cabins, 64 deluxe balcony cabins. 150 cabins will be allocated for single travelers giving a capacity of about 1400 passengers. Given the ship’s size, this provides for a very generous, spacious and relaxing feel with an impressive space ratio. With her spacious lounge areas, comfortable ac-commodation and wide range of facilities, Columbus is the ideal ship for such an adventure. For most of this voyage, you will be able to enjoy the warm tropical weather and therefore make full use of the expansive deck areas, swimming pools and whirlpools. The friendly, attentive crew will ensure you receive a high level of personal service throughout.

Commencing January 2018, Columbus will depart London (Tilbury) and embark on a 121-nights Round the World journey. The purpose built ocean cruiser will undertake a spectacular itinerary, traveling through the iconic Panama Canal before visiting French Polynesia, New Zealand, Australia, Magical Far East, India, UAE, Egypt and Jordan before the Suez Canal leads Columbus to the Mediterranean homeward bound, cruising through Greece and Malta, arriving into London (Tilbury) on 6 May, 2018.

highlights DARWIN – A modern city with sparkling buildings and broad

streets. Its fortunes are built on the sugar and fruits from the

plantations and forests, which enfold the city. Study Aboriginal

art and pearl fishing in the city’s museums.

MANILA– A teeming metropolis, with huge tower blocks

crowding the few examples of colonial architecture that

survived the bombing of the city during WWII. More

adventurous will discover its friendliness and charm.

SHANGHAI – From the architectural landmarks lining the

Bund and the rickety charm of the Old Town to the leafy

backstreets of the former French Concession, Shanghai is a

city that just begs for wandering and eating.

HONG KONG – A complexity that defies definition. It’s the only

place to search for colonial military relics near the Chinese

border, lunching with a Buddhist at a Sikh temple, trying to

decipher the aesthetics of Chinese Revival architecture, or

splurging on a set of knives.

HO CHI MINH CITY – A city of energy and discovery, and a

high-octane city of commerce and culture that has driven

the country forward with its pulsating energy. From the classiest

of restaurants to the tastiest of street stalls, the choicest of

boutiques to the scrum of the markets.

Day 83. Laem Chabang for Bangkok, Thailand – 28 March Full of contradictions, the City of Angels - Thailand’s capital city, has a rich, multifaceted personality. What Bangkok lacks in museums it makes up for in impressive temples and shiny palaces. There is a series of beautiful Buddhist temples to visit, including the Wat Pho and Wat Arun. The Grand Palace is worth visiting, too, and a longtail boat ride, thrilling.

Day 86. Singapore - 31 MarchSingapore is a melting pot of cultures and Southeast Asia’s oriental star. Retaining its heritage of colonial buildings, Buddhist temples and Arab bazaars, this modern island is today more about contemporary art and hi-tech architecture. Victorian buildings and Chinese shop-houses with their red-tiled roofs make for striking state-of-the-art conversions. Beyond the new facade of Singapore, museums recount an enlightened depth of history.

Day 87. Port Klang for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 1 AprilThe British made Kuala Lumpar the capital of Peninsular Malaysia in the late 19th century, erecting grand colonial buildings that continue to stand proud today. Since then, a virtual ‘race to the sky’ has seen the graceful buildings and mosques surrounded by steel and glass towers. Day 100. Dubai, UAE - 14 AprilKnown as the Venice of the Gulf, Dubai is famous for luxury shopping (tax free!), ultramodern architecture and an exotic, yet cosmopolitan lifestyle. It’s also the gateway to the lost city of Petra, which lies in the surrounding desert - a city that is estimated to date back to 6,000 B.C. - and Wadi Rum, where T.E. Lawrence found his destiny as ‘Lawrence of Arabia’.

The most significant ancient sites such as the Acropolis and Ancient Delphi, are linked by Europe’s longest and most stunning pedestrian promenade.

Day 115. Valletta, Malta - 29 AprilValletta is Malta’s tiny capital. When it was built by the Knights of St John, its founder decreed that it should be ‘a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen’, and

it retains much of this elegance. Despite its small size, there’s a mass of things to

see here and plenty of bars and restaurants, too, but its tranquillity is a large part of its

charm.

Day 118. Gibraltar - 2 MayWith its ‘Bobbies’, pillar boxes and pubs, Gibraltar, makes for a bit of Britain in the Mediterranean. Dominated by ‘the Rock’, the strategically positioned territory has been fought over for centuries. The result is a fascinating place where Barbary apes play on the slopes of the Rock, and where locals speak English and Spanish - or a form of both.

Please Note: Owing to National Park restrictions, guests may only go ashore to Komodo Island if they are part of an organised excursion.
