NARRATIVE PAINTING with Melisa PoolNEW! Critic Robert Atkins has written that “narrative”or story art — represents events taking place over time. These events may, however, be compressed into a singleimage that implies something that has already happenedor is about to take place. Painting, of course, has toldstories since at least the time of the ancient Egyptians. By the 1960’s, the modernist insistence on abstractionand the taboo against narrative had made telling talesirresistible to many artists. Pop art, New Realist paintingand sculpture, and Nouveau Realism all provide figurativeimagery into which narratives could be read — whetheror not they were intended by the artist. Learn effectiveways to capture the story in your paintings through lecture, demonstration and hands-on exercises. This class is designed for advanced painters working in oil or acrylic. At the time of your registration, you will be given a supplies list.Tuesdays, March 5-March 26, 6:30-8:30pm (4 sessions) $60-Residents/$70-Non-Residents
