Definition

Color is one of the most powerful and obvious elements of design; Color can be broken down into four categories: Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, and Compound

Examples

Primary

• The three primary colors are Red, Yellow, Blue

Secondary

• Orange, Green, and Violet are the 3 secondary colors, which fall between the primary colors

Tertiary

• Tertiary Colors fall between the primary colors and their adjacent secondary, for example red/orange falls between red and orange

Compound

• Compound colors are mixes of all three primaries

How To Use It

When using color, you can break it down into different color schemes

Monochromatic: is using different shades or tints on one color

Neutral color: uses equal parts of black, white, grey

Analogous: uses colors that contain a common hue and found next to each other on the color wheel

Warm Colors: are the brighter colors and suggest warmth, while appearing closer to the viewer

Cool Colors: are more dull colors and suggest coolness, while receding from the viewer
