TONY’S Gun Cleaner Tips—Gun Cleaner vs. Lacquer Thinner

Compliance: Solvent has the highest VOC level of any product we use in

the refinish shop. As the EPA continues to place restrictions on its use, and

tracks VOC levels in some parts of the country, we will most likely see lac-

quer thinner go away at some point—just as lacquer paint did. Make the

switch now from lacquer thinner to gun cleaner and get ahead of the game

on compliance and promote your business as “Green”.

Benefits: Gun cleaner has a longer life than lacquer thinner and will not

have to be changed as often. Gun cleaner will remove paint and clean paint

equipment more effectively than thinner, and is much gentler on the seals

of the expensive guns and equipment that you have invested in.

Recycling: Using disposable cups can eliminate cans, mixing cups and

using large amounts of cleaning products. Gun cleaner is recyclable and

can be brought back to strength with the addition of a little acetone. This

can not only save money, but eliminate waste.

Summary: Use gun cleaner, not lacquer thinner! Get ahead of com-

pliance; clean more effectively; extend the life of your expensive

equipment; and do what’s best for the environment.

6 Common Sense Tips

for Spray Guns

1. Use the right tools to clean your guns.

The wrong tools can damage the tips or

seals and adversely affect the spray

pattern.

2. It’s better to use a modern gun washer.

Don’t soak guns in dirty lacquer thinner,

which can cause the air and fluid pas-

sages to become clogged with paint

residue, compromising spray quality.

3. To achieve the best possible paintwork,

make sure the air is clean.

4. Use the correct pressure settings and

the right size hose.

5. Always use respiration equipment!
