Live life spontaneously. There are so many people who study continuously for their upcoming quizzes so they can get into the best college. People put so much pressure on themselves that they don’t know how to have fun anymore. When you look back on your high school experience, do you want to remember endless nights of studying or would you rather remember how you were part of a raging student section at every home game? Do you want to have to dig exceptionally deep into your memories just to recollect that one night you actually half-way enjoyed high school or do you want to have a list of unforgettable moments flood into your mind? Success isn’t measured by how many vocabulary words you memorize or how long you study for a test; success is measured by laughter, unforgettable moments, and all of those times that you made a difference in someone’s life. These successful moments filled with roaring laughter and once-in-a-lifetime experiences create the list of memories that will flood through my mind when someone asks me, “What was your favorite part of High School?”

The fall production of “The Im-portance of Being Earnest” featured a cast of 11 and a crew of five stu-dents. The Oscar Wilde classic was chosen for its wit, according to GHS instruc-tor and director Jason deMaranville. “It’s very witty, and I’ve always appreciated Wilde’s humor,” deMa-ranville said. “I also have quite a few talented students who were perfect for the couples in the show.” DeMaranville said he likes to in-troduce students to literature they might not normally be exposed to. The play “The Importance of Being Earnest,” is full of satire and double identities, according to deMaran-ville. “It’s fun to watch the kids discover these things,” he said. “It’s a great show for educational theater.” DeMaranville added that several of the cast members helped in con-structing this year’s set, but he’s also

done a lot of the construction. Plus, there is always the task of rearrang-ing around everyone’s schedules. Part of the challenge this year was the type of show, since the play is a period piece. “Some of the problems include the dialogue for the actors,” he said. “There are quite a few lines in the show for the actors to learn. I’m re-ally proud of them because they’ve done a great job and have been a ter-rific group to work with.”

Importance of beingEarnest

Cecily, played by sophomore Allison Baird, studies her German while Gwendolyn discusses her engage-ment. “Horrid geography! Horrid ge-ology! Horrid, horrid German!”

Earnest (Andrew Cook, junior) kisses his fiance (Hayley Grams, junior) on the cheek before he leaves town. When he returns there seems to be some tension between the girls.

Keagan Hielbrun - ‘16

“Overall, most of us are all really good friends and get together here and there, so yes i would say we were all intert-winned in and out of the set.”

Olivia Anderson- ‘14

“I did not know some of the cast at first, but after spending a lot of time to-gether during practices, i got really close and we all got to become really good friends towards the end.”

Andrew Cook- ‘15

“I think this play brought all of us closer together. I didn’t really know ev-eryone, but when we were on stage it seemed like we had all known each other forever.”

Colin Potts - ‘16

“I would say we all are pretty tight, in and out of set. I really enjoyed it and wouldn’t have asked for a better group to work with.”

Tea PartyAlgernon, who is played by Kea-gan Heilbrum, pours a cup of tea for his Aunt Agosta, who is played by Megan Brady, who came to town for a visit. Algernon and his aunt would get together for a cup of tea for as long as they could remember.

Love BirdsEarnest, who is played by Andrew Cook, and Gwendolyn, who is played by Hayley Grams, share their excitement for their recent en-gagement. It was a quick movement from meeting eachother to being engaged. “Of course because your name is Earnest!”

Chatting Away the TimeMiss Prism played by senior Olivia Anderson, and Dr. Chausuble (Brock Chitwood, senior), have a little chat on the bench about how a married man isn’t attractive to anyone but his wife. Both Anderson and Chitwood are seniors and have been involved in play productions. since they were sophomores.

Under InspectionCecily strikes a pose to give Gwendolyn an opportunity to look her over and inspect her. There is a lot of competition between the two over the course of the play to see who can win Earnest’s affection. “I’m quite fond of being looked at!”

After you step onto the mat, walk across the field, or jog onto the court, you become part of something more than yourself. You’ve worked through grueling hours of practice and now you are ready to conquer the challenges ahead together. With each loss and win, we are con-stantly changing who we are. Athlet-ics test our limits to go beyond what we thought possible, learn the pains of loss and the rewards of success. In sports, we work as a team towards something more than winning. We strive towards connections, detemi-nation, and perfection. Relying on each other means so much more than just support. We teach each other how to fight when we’re down and how to compete when it’s seems impossible. With every drop of sweat and each tear shed, we share it together. Every roller coaster the Bulldogs lead, each loss to major rivals, every interac-tion with teammates and opponents doesn’t just make us interdependent on each other athletically, but make us, us.

IntertwinedIntertwined Every day. Every hour. Every minute I get closer to the end Every memory is just a thought of all the people, students, and teachers I know. So many different faces and per-sonalities intertwined to make some of the best years of my life. Laughs and tears connecting us all for the rest of our unknown lives. I’ll never forget the friends and op-portunities high school gave me. I only wished that I appreciated it before the end came. However, there is one thing that will never be forgotten. Everyone is connected in some way. We are all intertwined when we don’t even realize it. A random day at lunch, a conversa-tion down the hall, even a quick ques-tion about a difficult assignment. With memories like this, there is nothing the future holds than can diminish cher-ished past. With such a memorable past, I can’t wait to see what the future holds. Mem-ories are what make us while the future will carve us into better people. With an unforgetable past, we will carry the memories with us for the rest of our lives.
