Rhode Island PoliticsSome people who disliked with Puritan’s

leader. Include Roger Williams, and Anne Hutchinson was

banished because she taught men about religion.

Roger Williams Belief :

1. Williams argued the Puritan Church had too much

power. The church and the government should be

separated.

2. Should create order and peace in society but shouldn’t

promote one particular religion.

3. Religious toleration in Puritans Massachusetts, non-

Puritans were not allowed to worship freely.

The English was jealous with successful

trading of Dutch. English send warships into the

harbor. King Charles II of England gained

control of the Dutch colony of New Netherlands

by invading the city of new Amsterdam while at

war with the Dutch, passed control of New

Netherland into his brother James the Duke of

York. In 1664 he renamed the colony “New

York”
