Cancer is a class of disease in whicha group of cells display
uncontrolled growth throughdivision beyond normal limits andsometimes metastasis, in which
cancer cells spread to otherlocations in the body via lymph orblood.

COLON CANCER.
This is also referred to as colorectal or
bowel cancer. This is as a result of
uncontrolled cell growth in the largeintestine. It originates from small non-
cancerous tumors called
adenomatous polyps that form on theinner wall of the large intestine which
develop into malignant cancer
overtime.

STAGES OF COLON CANCER.
Invasive cancers that are confined within the wallof the colon (TNM stages I and II).
If untreated, they spread to regional lymphnodes (stage III).
Cancer that metastasizes to distant sites (stageIV).

Stages I and II are treated by
surgery.
Stage III is treated by surgery and
chemotherapy.

Regular medical check up.
Regular screening at latter age.
Genetic counseling.
Learn family medical history.
Dont smoke.

DIETARY FIBRE.
Dietary fibre refers to a group of foodcomponents that pass through the stomachand small intestine undigested and reach
the large intestine virtually unchanged.It includes non-starch polysaccharides such as
arabinoxylans, cellulose and many other
plant components such as resistantdextrins, inulin, lignin, waxes, chitins,pectins and oligosaccharides.

CONCLUSION.
Even though colon cancercannot be thoroughly treated,
it can be prevented by variousmeans of which the regular
intake of dietary fibre is veryessential.
