ACTIVITY COMMITTEES: The Collington Singers. (Last page of Telephone Directory) The Chair is Marilyn Haskel. The Singers are no longer lumped under Music Committee, but have a budget of their own. CLOCKTOWER DISPLAY: Skipjacks are on display in the Clock Tower. We have 6 boats that need crews. This year we want a team from each District, the Apartments, and an all-woman team. That's a total of 7 teams, so the first 6 teams to organize will be the ones chosen. I think it will be fun to see District against District and the bragging rights that go to the winner.

NEWS FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, MARVELL ADAMS: Greetings All! As I briefly mentioned during last month's community meeting, our bi-annual resident satisfaction and engagement survey will be conducted starting later this month. I'll have more details on this at the community meeting on 3/17 but wanted to mention it here for those that may miss the community meeting. We will also be putting up flyers as another means of communicating this. The survey is conducted by an external independent organization that all Kendals utilize which allows us to benchmark. Special thanks in advance to the residents that have/will volunteer to help administer the survey to residents that need assistance in completing it. More to come... SECOND DINING VENUE UPDATE! Pre-construction work is scheduled to begin. This will include the installation of the gravel road and other work to prepare for demolition. Following the completion of this preconstruction work, demolition and construction will begin. NEWS FROM THE CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, KAREN BOYCE: The Facilities department has signed a contract with a vendor to remove approximately 16 trees from the dam area. This initiative came about as a result of two prior inspections conducted on the Dam by Prince Georges County Department of the Environment in which the dam failed both inspections as a result of the trees growing on the abutment areas of the dam. The Collington Dam was designed by Loiederman Engineering and approved for construction in 1985. The inspections during the construction were under the supervision of Schnabel Engineering Associates. The earthen dam was designed in accordance with Maryland Code 378, and classified as a low hazard structure (class “A”). The primary purposes of the dam are storm water management and recreation. The dam inspections revealed the structure was found to have deficiencies that require correction and to be in “unacceptable” condition. After reaching out to the original engineers group as well as seeking opinion from an additional

Courier 11 March 13-March 19, 2017

engineers group, both concluded with the same suggestions as sited in the inspections. Thanks to Jim Giese, Sara Case, Alice Nicolson; individual residents Jacob Kijne & William Preston; as well as other for their feedback, advice, and input. The scope of work is schedule to begin the week of March 13th pending inclement weather. GREENHOUSE CLEARING BY MARCH 15: All persons who have held plants in the Greenhouse this winter are urged to remove them by or before March 15. This will make room for the Garden Committee to fill the Greenhouse with bedding plants and tomato plants to be grown for sale in April. A MESSAGE FROM THE INTERIORS GROUP: WANTED (to borrow): FRAMED OLD MAPS: The Interiors Group seeks interesting framed old maps to exhibit in the Library corridor starting toward the end of this month. If you have one or more that you would be willing to lend for the enjoyment of your fellow residents, and willing to do without your maps for several months, please call Anne Stone x7282, Maja Keech x7253, or Helen Lauck x7254. FEEDBACK FOR DINING SERVICES: While visiting the Dining Room please use the comment cards located on your table or request one from the hostess; giving us your thoughts on how we are doing! –The Collington Culinary Team.
