FROM THE COUNTRY STORE: So when Old Mother Hubbard went to the store on the very last day of the month.

The cupboard was bare much to her despair; she said “Who got here before me?”

Well, folks don’t let this happen to you. Every time you charge something at The Landing or in the store you get a receipt (sometimes

Page 15: Collington’s Weekly Courier · discussion and/or worship gatherings. NEIGHBOR TALKS, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 7PM – AUDITORIUM: Neighbor Talks is a series of informal presentations

Courier  15             September 17–September 23, 2018

you must ask) telling you what’s left in your account (descending balance).

You can use that number to plan your expenditures throughout the month. Are you going away for a trip? Do you skip meals? Do you eat at the Landing frequently? Do you go out to eat once a week? Learn to rely on that receipt to help you plan your shopping at the Country Store.

You know that you have $10 for each day of the month to spend on meals. You know each day (from your receipt) whether you spent your $10 or have a few left over from eating upstairs/eating out. Takes a little arithmetic to figure out the amount over $10/day you have left.

So if you have some left over you can use that money right away in the store instead of waiting til the last days of the month.

That will help you and the Country Store to plan for your satisfying shopping experience. We order groceries every week. But if you all wait til the last days of the month then come in to buy extraordinary amounts of food, we will not be able to stock enough to serve everyone.

We’re all in this together and have to learn to plan ahead.

Suzanne Shabe

I have been an Activity Director and or Manager for over 25 years. I have a BA in Sociology/Gerontology from Mt. Saint Mary College and a BS in Therapeutic Recreation from York College.

I thank my college advisor for leading me into the field of Therapeutic Recreation. The beginning of my senior year, my advisor Dr. Smith asked me what I was going to do with my degree. Next thing I knew, I was sent to the local nursing home. I was assigned to work an entire day in each department: nursing, social services, activities, dietary, administration, etc. I loved working in the activity department. The residents always had fun and I loved seeing them happy. I went back to college and received my BS in Therapeutic Recreation. I have never looked back and have never thought about changing my profession. It truly is what I love to do.

On a personal note, I live in Bel Air, Maryland. I have two adult children, Timothy is 28, and Andrew is 25. I have two of the most adorable miniature Dachshunds; Snickers and Bruce. I am enjoying my position as the Activities and Wellness Manager. That saying, “You are never too old to learn.” has definitely applied to me. I never thought I would be learning all about chlorine levels, water temperature and pool management, yet here I am!
