Dr. Raymond Sanderson. 48-year-old paslor of First Rapt isl Chureh in Ro<'kwood. Tenn., has accepted a call as minister of H i c k o r y Grove Baptist Church.

A graduate of Georgetown College in Kentu<:ky, Dr. San-de1son has his ba<:hclor of divinity and his doctorate from Southern Baptist Seminary. He is presently a member of the Tennessee Baptist Executive Board and of lhe executive committee of lhe Southern Bap-tist Co111'enlion.

Pastors Begin Duties There are three new men in

town : a Baetist, an Episco· :r,alian and eventh-Day Ad· ventist, new ministers of Char-lotte congregations.

The Baptist is Dr. Raymond Sanderson, pastor of Hickory Grove Baptist Church.

Sanderson, 48, graduated from Georgetown <Ky.) Col· lege and earned his doctor of divinity degree from Southern Baptist Seminary. He has served churches in Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana and is a member of the execuitve com-mittee or the Southern Baptist Church.

Sanders will preach his first sermon today.

The Episcopalian b Aev. :J. Grafton Cockrell, associate rector of Christ Church. He also begins his official duties today.

His special training is in pastoral care and counseling.

Cockrell, a native of Vir-ginia, g r a d u a t e d from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. He earned his bachelor and master of di· vinity degrees from Duke Uni-versity.

He has served as chaplain Intern at the Duke Medical Center and as vicar in Cooleemee, A d v a n c e and Raleigh.

The Seventh-Day Adventist is Elder Mitchell A. Tyner, new pastor of the congregation at 1011 E. Morehead St.

Tyner graduated from Union College in Lincoln, Neb. and studied theology at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Mich.

He bas served in churches in St. Joseph and St. Louis, Mo.

For 25 years, Dr . Snaderson has served churches in Ken-tucky, Tennesree and Indiana. He is a graduate of Georgetown College a n d Southern Seminary a n d received bis Doctor of Divinity degree from Georgetown in 1958. He has served as a member of the executive com-mittee of the Southern Baptist Convention and as a member of the executive boards of Kentucky and Te\lnessee. He also has been moderator in most of the associations in which he bas served.

Gerald Southerland will lead the congregational singiU1g and f,pecial music each night during the revival.

"Dr. Sanderson preaches the Gospel with 'Power, con-viction and cornpas!>ion," the Rev. Claude W a l k e r , Englewood pastor, declared as he invited the public to visit the church during the service. A nursery also will be provided.

and highly respected. Dr. George Moore served 7 months, and the Rev. Mr. Clyde Yates served 9 months, making a total of 16 months the church was without a fulltime pastor . Many members feel that God used Henry Maxey during this time of transition to keep the church moving in the right direction .

congregation. He was a native of Kentucky, having earned the B.S. degree from Georgetown University and graduated from Southern Baptise Theological Seminary in Louisville. He had held pastorates in Kentucky, Ind iana, and Tennessee, where he has served the denomination well through associational and state offices . His ministry at Hickory Grove began the fir t Sunday of November in 1969.
