Application Procedures for Freshmen

• Complete the UNCG application forms, including essay. A $55 application fee must accompany the application.

*The application deadline for freshman admission is March 1. Applications received after that date will be considered on a space available basis.

• Submit an official transcript of school work. Applicants must request that their school counselors forward their transcripts, including courses in progress, weighted cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, and rank in class, directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

• Take the SAT administered by The College Board or the ACT Assessment with the Writing Test option. (If possible, this test should be taken in the spring of the junior year and in the fall of the senior year of secondary school.)

*For freshman applicants, UNCG does not have a minimum GPA or minimum test score required for admission.

• English: 4 units (emphasis on grammar, composition, and literature) Math: 4 units (including algebra I, geometry, algebra II, and one unit beyond algebra II*)Science: 3 units (including at least one unit in life or biological science, at least one unit in physical science, and at least one laboratory course) Social Science: 2 units (must include one unit of U.S. history and one unit of history, economics, sociology, or civics)Foreign Language: 2 units of the same language (American Sign Language acceptable)

the expectation that students have a satisfactory grade point average and new SAT/ACT score.

• All applicants for first-time admission as freshmen must meet minimum high school GPA and SAT scores.

• The minimum combined SAT score (on mathematics and critical reading) for admission is 700 or a composite ACT of 15. The SAT (ACT) minimum score is effective for students entering in Fall 2009. The minimum SAT score will be increased to 750 or ACT composite of 16 for students entering in Fall 2011. The minimum SAT score will increase to 800 or ACT composite of 17 for students entering in Fall 2013 and beyond.

3. Live for today, but plan for tomorrow. Planning for what could be right around the corner is never a bad thing. It’s always good to have a Plan B. Certainly enjoy every waking moment of your life, but keep a back up action plan for your future goals as well

4. Be your own visionary. Have your own personal vision for your life and make it real by writing it down and placing it somewhere you will see it every day. Keep your plan alive by keeping it in your thoughts.

5. Be ambitious. Think ACTION and always be looking out for new opportunities that come your way to better-up yourself and what you are doing. Ideas and opportunities sometimes come off the cuff; leave yourself open to see them when they appear.

6. Learn to adapt. Change is the only thing that remains constant. Change can be your friend so don’t run from it—embrace it. Fear is not an option as you move forward.

7. Think Big. Everything you do should be on a grand scale and never settle for less than your personal best. What is your personal best? Only you know, but one thing is for certain… when you haven’t done it a voice in your head and heart is the first to let you know.

8. Live outside the box. Think about what you could be doing that others are not doing. Don’t be afraid to break free from the pack and run wild with your creative edge. 9. Develop the right mind set. This is your key to success as your mind set controls your thoughts, feelings and actions. Stay actively positive as you move in and out of your day. 10. Build genuine relationships with others. No one is an island. You need help no matter what you do. Networking is key to success. Appreciation is never underrated. Doors will open that you never thought possible.
