Students and Staff were joined by representatives of various sporting bodies and celebrated what has been another outstanding year for the program and Hallam Senior College.

Guest speaker, Chris Anstey*, opened the night with some insight into seizing opportunities and what it takes to be successful in a sporting environment, and more importantly how those attributes can be transferred into other areas of life.

*Chris is a former Australian professional basketball player and the head coach of the Melbourne Tigers. His playing career included stints in the NBA, Russia and Spain)

3 for 3The Senior girls cricket team won their 3rd state title in a row on Tuesday 16th October.

Our semi final was against Bendigo SSC. We lost the toss and were put into bat. We finished 4 for 117 off our allotted 20 overs. Rachael Hunt top scored 45, playing some great leg side shots. Bendigo finished 4 for 87 off their 20 overs. Best of the bowlers were Rachael with 2 for 13 off 4 overs and Chloe McMillan who went for only 8 runs off her 4 overs.

This win saw us play against Emmanual College for the title.

We won the toss and elected to bowl first and quickly had them in trouble, dismissing their top 5 bats for a combined total of 18 runs. Their middle order rallied to get them a total they could defend and we got the last wicket in the 17th over to keep them to 64 runs.

Best of the bowlers were Rachael- 2 for 6 off 4 overs, Chloe- 3 for 13 off 3 overs & Ellie Blackburn 2 for 4 off 2 overs.

The Hallam girls were sensational in the field, cutting off or chasing down many shots & holding their catches. We were in early trouble losing 2 wickets then Rachael & Kirsten McLeod steadied the innings.

Emmanuel had several good bowlers who bowled very good line and length to keep us under constant pressure. Kirsten went out when our score was 36 and this bought Ellie to the crease. Ellie (15no) and Rachael (19no) saw us home with 4 overs to go.

This completes a fantastic year for both the AFL girls and girls cricket teams;

Both undefeated for the past 3 years and State Champions.

The team was: Chloe McMillan, Ellie Blackburn, Rachael Hunt, Cherie Tamanalevu, Cassandra Meads, Danielle Hardiman, Kirsten McLeod, Brittany Read, Corey Pendry, Skye Day, Kiah Laughlin Glen and Karly Tapner.

Congratulations to everyone involved.

Basketball NewsThe Intermediate boys and girls basketball teams recently played 3 to decide the Southern Zone Champions for 2012.

The girls faced off against three very good sports schools; Westernport, Frankston and Mentone Girls

The girls lost by 10 points in their first game to the eventual winner, Mentone. They lost by a point to Westernport and managed to beat Frankston by 20 points in the final game. They have now finished the season as the best placed Hallam Girls team in the history of the program.

The boys had a danger game in round one against the powerful Melbourne High but ran out narrow winners by two points.

The final two games against Hampton Park and Rosebud saw the boys have comfortable wins.

The boys now progress to the State Final on November 27th hoping to emulate the team of 2009 who were our last State basketball champions.

Parents of students progressing to Year 12 in 2013 are invited to attend a course confirmation interview with their sub school leading teacher on Wednesday 14/11 between 1pm & 8pm.

VCE Unit 4 Examination arrangements and informationThese exams are administered by the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority (VCAA). In order to ensure fairness to all students there are strict rules and regulations that VCAA apply to these exams. Students and schools across the state must abide by the same rules.

Failure to abide by these rules can result in individual students not receiving a score for their examination(s), groups of students / studies receiving a derived score for their exams and /or students being moved to another examination centre.

Frequently asked questions:

What if I am sick on the day of the exam? If you are sick you are still required to attend and (possibly) attempt the exam. The examination supervisors can complete a Derived Examination Score (DES) application explaining your symptoms. In order to do this you must be at the examination centre. You will also need to provide a medical certificate. If the application is approved VCAA will calculate a score based on your GAT results.

What if I am running late? Call the school as soon as possible. Arrangements can be made to make sure you arrive for the exam. You may be eligible to be given an extension of time if the exam supervisors and school principal agree that your reasons for being late are serious and unavoidable. Sleeping in or forgetting the date and time are not valid excuses! Call the school as soon as you realise you will be late.

When should I arrive at school for an exam? Arrive at least 30mins prior to the start of the exam. Be at the exam room at least 20mins before the start of reading time.

What if something happens during the exam period that makes it difficult for me to do my best? eg Death in the family, extreme personal hardship etc. Call the school as soon as possible. An emergency Special Examination Arrangements (SEA’s) or Derived Examination Score (DES) application can be completed and you may be eligible for your circumstances to be taken into consideration by VCAA. In these cases some additional evidence may be required.

What can I take into the exam? See below
