What happens in Schol. Prep classes?

Biology: Integrate knowledge from different standards with unfamiliar contexts.

Chemistry: Critical thinking and scholarship exam techniques.

Physics: Discussion of physics concepts and practice of scholarship questions.

ESS: Applying L2&3 concepts in new contexts.

Stats: Three extra standards are taught, all standards are then reviewed at higher levels and with more in depth contexts.

Calculus: An extra standard is taught. All standards are reviewed at higher levels.

English: Students learn to demonstrate extensive knowledge of texts in an essay form, respond critically with mature ideas and develop their analysis through independent reflection.

German, Chinese and Japanese: Students need a high level of fluency in the target language and need to effectively communicate with perception and insight to create meaning. Appropriate cultural knowledge is also required.

Media Studies: Students make connections between the past and current trends/events and use Media theory.

Classics and History: Students learn to critically evaluate, referring to a wide range of primary and secondary sources.

Geography and Economics: Students need to draw on diagrams and resources provided to write essays. In Economics one extra standard is taught.

Accounting: 4 of 5 questions require further study beyond level 3 Accounting.

Health and Physical Education Scholarship

Open to students taking the following courses:Physical EducationHealth Education

Food and NutritionA research report that presents evidence from a self-selected topic drawn from the Health and PE curriculum. Submitted at the end of October.

Drama (recorded on camera) Perform a text-based performance, submit a fully annotated script and present oral analysis ANDperform a self-devised piece with a two minute oral analysis.

Music Scholarship: Students are supported to prepare a portfolio of work as a composer or performer or musicologist andwrite an in-depth critical reflection of the portfolio work.

Visual Arts: Complete AS 3.4 external examination successfully then submit in-depth, critical documentation of ideas and methods used in folio production, and show extension of these into other media (8 x A3 pages)

Technology: Create a portfolio during the year that shows synthesis and integration, critical reflection and justification of practice. This requires dedication! DVC students submit the portfolio, whereas other subjects compose a written report.
