Scientific Academic Forum - April, 2017 COLLEGE EVENTS The Scientific Academic Forum conducted by the Department of Child Health Nursing was held on 2.04.17,that focused on communicable Diseases. The highlights of the Forum comprised of an Quiz programme for III year B.Sc (N) students conducted by M,Sc(N) I year Child Health Nursing clinical specialty students, which was mind blowing & interesting. Nursing students (2016-2017 batch) was held on 12th April 2017 (Wednesday) with Dr. Gitanjali D, Associate Professor and HOD Department of Forensic Medicine, Government Medical College, Villupuram as the 60 Chief Guest presided by Our Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. K.R.Sethuraman, SBV. The inaugural address was given by Vice Chancellor Prof. K.R.Sethuraman SBV. He in his address appreciated PG students for taking this initiatives and suggested that program of this kind can be organised once in six months. The workshop - An overview was presented by Dr. Renuka K Dean, Faculty of Nursing Sciences, SBV. The bundle of knowledge was compressed in a CD and was released by the Chief Guest. Immunization unit , MGMCRI,. The

chairperson introduced the Panel

members and the discussion

opened up with the Importance of

administering Vaccination, the

Myths the public have towards

towards Immunization , Immunization schedule followed by Government of India ,and The

need for administering Pulse Polio & Measles Rubella (MR) vaccine . All Panelists raced up

with valid points, and the discussion was very fruitful. At the end, the Chairperson

emphasized, the core concept ‘To Promote, Protect, Support Immunization, after which the

floor was opened for discussion. Many mothers raised their Queries, especially about MR

vaccines, Optional vaccines, missed doses, etc. Their Queries were answered by the

Department of Child Health Nursing & by Dr. Soundararajan HOD, Department of Paediatrics,

MGMCRI. Thus the event turned out to be a very useful one benefitting around 25 mothers.

Feedback were collected from beneficiaries elicited that the programme was highly

informative & good.

benefitted. B.Sc (N) IV year students actively participated and emphasized the care during

antenatal period, which includes personal hygiene, diet, antenatal checkup, supplements,

exercises, rest, sleep, travel. Immunizations, morning sickness and its managements. The

Programme came to an end at 11.30am.Mothers doubts were clarified, Photographs were

taken. Feedback was obtained from the beneficiaries.

Report on Career Guidance Program and MOU Signing -May, 2017

Placement cell of KGNC organized Career Guidance Program on 5.5.17 from 3 pm to

5 pm. It’s a moment of great pride that KGNC is moving one step ahead, finding a place for our Kastubians to place their feet abroad. At 3 pm members gathered at Telepresence room, SBV , MOU was signed by Mr, Gregory McCaffrey, CEO, Canadian Health Care Academy, Canada and Dr. Renuka K, Dean Faculty of Nursing sciences in the presence of a team comprised of Prof. K. R Sethuraman, Vice – Chancellor, SBV, Prof. N. Ananthakrishnan Dean, AHS, SBV, Prof. A. R. Srinivasan, Registrar, SBV, Mr. Ralph Mathew, Legal adviser, SBV, Mrs. Asha Suresh Babu, GM (Admin) and few faculty members of KGNC. At 4 pm in II floor lecture hall, MGMCRI.

Report on Nursing Education Unit - May, 2017

institute of medical Sciences, Puducherry, was invited for the lecture on “Nurses: A voice

to Lead – Achieving the Sustainable development Goals (SDGS)”. She illuminated on

various topics like Nurses as changing force, and the role of nurses in Sustainable

development goals which bestowed good spirit and inspiration among the Faculty,

Kasturbians, and the staff nurses from MGMCRI. There was a brief group discussion at the

end of the session, and the session concluded with the Vote of Thanks.

Medical Education Unit - May, 2017

Department of Health Professions Education organized a lecture on “Emerging

areas of educational research in health professions” which was conducted on 15.5.17. Prof.

K. R. Sethuraman, Vice Chancellor,SBV deliberated on the topic in MEU hall ,first floor,

MGMCRI .The session was highly interesting and motivating. The faculty rendered an

active participation in the session.
