ONE OF OUR INTERESTINGPATIENTS
Joe Moser,a patient of Dr. Uhrich’s for over 30 years, has aninteresting hobby. Joe designs andmakes wood furniture. He is retiredand works with wood purely as apastime in his home garage, but his pastime produces beautiful works of art that gracehis home and the homes of his children and friends.
Joe describes his art as “abstract,” not conventional square or rectangular tables thatyou would find at a furniture store. He says that he needs to find an irregular piece ofwood with a peculiar grain before he can begin a project. Joe uses aromatic cedar, cherry, or walnut to create his pieces. He states that he has made about two dozen itemsin the past 15 years consisting of coffee tables, end tables, sofa tables, benches, and barstools.
One of the tables he made was for his daughter, who lives in Hawaii. He made thetable here and shipped it to her; she had to assemble it when it arrived. Joe also made afew tables for a potter in Door County, Wisconsin, in exchange for a full set of pottery.Joe says that he does not sell his work, as he is “strictly an amateur”; however, thepeople who have received his wood creations are truly blessed with a beautiful piece offurniture!
Often on school holidays, we have alot of young people come in for theirdental cleaning and exam. This pastPresidents’ Day, February 18, 2013, wehad several kids come in to visit us. Weput their creativity to work, as we gavethem paper, pencils, and crayons andasked them to make some artwork forour newsletter.
Here are some of the beautiful andinteresting pictures we received.
