College Transfer and Collaboration at York University

• York University is a leader in College-University Collaboration

• York has established a comprehensive block transfer credit policy in addition to 14 successful collaborative programs including • BDesign program with Sheridan College and• Collaborative Nursing programs with Seneca and Georgian Colleges

• Through this framework, York admits 2,600 students per year as credit transfer or into joint/collaborative programs.

• In total, almost 8,200 college transfer and joint degree students are enrolled at York University

Block Transfer Credit Policy

• York’s policy provides for a predetermined number of credits/courses or course waivers based on an number of factors:• college program• alignment • years completed

• This transfer credit is offered as a matter of policy without special application required and without formal articulation agreements with the colleges.

New Admissions (2010-11)

• Almost 2,600 new admits (across all three terms) from college transfers and/or into collaborative programs

• 2,100 students transferred under the block credit transfer policy• 800 into 1st year and

• 1,300 into upper years

• 100 new students in the BDesign Program (Sheridan)

• 100 new students in Professional Writing (Seneca)

• Partnership between York and Seneca• York’s biggest ‘trading partner”• build an administrative data set with student records from both institutions• answers the missing questions/look for patterns• college to university and university to college

• Special focus on nursing collaborative programs• looking for key success factors
