What is AP credit?

▶ A rigorous curriculum recognized nationwide

▶ Each course provides an in depth introduction to a specific subject area

▶ Awarded a high school credit for completion of AP courses

▶ Students take the associated AP exam in May

▶ Higher score = generally more college credit

▶ All AP courses receive .5 per semester extra weight for HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarship purposes (up to 4.0) and 1.0 extra weight for high school GPA

▶ Each AP Exam score is a weighted combination of the student's scores on the multiple-choice section and the free-response section. The final score is reported on a 5-point scale:

▶ 5 = extremely well qualified4 = well qualified3 = qualified2 = possibly qualified1 = no recommendation

Benefits of AP Courses

▶ Entering college with AP credit gives you time to move into

upper-level courses in your field of interest, pursue a double

major, or study/travel abroad.

▶ Develop better study habits, improve your writing skills and

sharpen your problem-solving abilities

▶ Research consistently shows that students who are

successful in AP typically experience greater academic

success in college than similar students who do not

participate in AP.

▶ Stand out in the college admissions process.
