Student Affairs –

MDConnect Campus Solutions (CS) –

Vice Provost Maalouf announced that MDConnect Campus Solutions (CS) module will go-live on Monday,

June 27 at 7:00 a.m. for Fall 2016 (2167) registration. Students will receive support for the MDConnect Self

Service Student Center, including tutorials and resources, through the MDConnect Student website.

Additional support will be provided through existing student service areas at the campuses, including Student

Services, Learning Resources and the computer courtyards. Faculty members will also receive resources and

training for navigating the MDConnect Self Service Faculty Center starting in August.

Nelnet Payment Plan –

MDC will no longer offer short-term loans to pay for tuition. Starting this fall, students will have the option

of participating in the Nelnet payment plan. Payments methods are automatic bank payment (ACH) or

credit/debit card. To participate, there is an enrollment fee of $40 per semester and $30 fee if payment is

returned. Payments are processed on the 20th of each month. Payment plan will be available starting June 27,

2016.

5. School of Education

Dean Thomas introduced Susan Neimand, Director, who introduced Professor Lucia Obregon and Iris

Strachan, Early Childhood Education Chair. She presented proposed modifications for four (4) courses that

are part of the AS in Preschool (27031) and College Credit Certificate (60003). These modifications are in

response to changes in FLDOE Frameworks for College Credit Certificate in Preschool, FLDOE Frameworks

for the AS in Preschool, and NAEYC Standards. Professor Obregon added that the benefits that these

modifications bring about for students are that competencies are aligned with research and evidence- based

best practices in early childhood education, courses are aligned with challenging and latest academic and early

childhood education standards, and provide students with coherent and rigorous content as well as knowledge

and skills needed to further education and careers in the field of early childhood education.

6. School of Engineering & Technology

Dean Bien-Aime introduced Professor Babic, Director, who presented the two (2) proposed 60 credits AS in

Animation and Game Art and AS in Game Development. These degrees are both industry driven and address

employer needs and demands. He also requested two new proposed courses with fees for the AS in Animation

and Game Art. In response to the development of the two new AS degrees, the School of Engineering +

Technology is also requesting the deletion of the corresponding track options under the AS in Computer

Programming and Analysis – Animation and Game Art Option and Game Development Option.

Motion 2: The School of Engineering + Technology is proposing two (2) new

courses for the Associate in Science in Animation & Game Art

program.

7. School of Business

Associate Dean Adkins introduced Cynthia Conteh, Chair, who introduced Professor Nayrie Smith, and

presented the proposed program modifications to the AS in Automotive Services Management Technology.

Program was previously set to be sunset due to changes in State standards. To comply with FLDOE change

document, program must be transitioned from an AS to AAS degree. All modifications are in alignment with

industry requirements and needs. This program will target two groups of students: Students who have

completed or are concurrently enrolled in an automotive program that is accredited by the National Automotive

Technicians Education Fund (NATEF). The other target group includes professional automotive technicians

who have obtained their industry certifications such as Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) issued by the

National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.

Professor Smith presented a proposed new course with fee, modifications to three (3) existing courses, and a

course reinstatement to be utilize in the AAS program as well as elective credits within the School of Business

course offering. She also presented the proposed modifications to the MAR1011 Principles of Marketing to

align course to industry standards to reflect marketing in the 21st century, and to include concepts related to

social media as well as digital marketing.

Add New Course

Motion 2: The School of Business is requesting the approval to add a new course as

part of the AAS in Automotive Service Management Techonolgy.

environment. Students will learn business etiquette, alternative career pathways, personal financial

Curriculum Action Rationale: New course designed as an elective for the School of Business.

Motion 3: Approve request to add course user fee.

Proposed Fee: $24.00

Rationale/Justification: Fees to cover the cost of site licenses for business simulations.

The projected enrollment of 20 students per section is based on

historically observed enrollment trends for comparable courses

within the School of Business. The anticipated offering is 15

sections of 20 students.

8. School of Justice

Dean Peña introduced Ray Socorro, Director, and Professor Caryn Horwitz, who presented the proposed new

AS in Security Management & Administration. This is a technical degree for students seeking positions in

either public and/or private security. The degree is designed to provide competencies especially for the fields

of Homeland Security and Private Security. It will prepare students for positions with the government in

Transportation Security Administration and Crisis Zones around the world as well as various positions in the

ever widening field of private security including corporations, retail establishment, and private individuals.

This degree will serve as the pathway between the CCC in Homeland Security, licenses and the BAS. Four

(4) new courses are being proposed as part the program. The development of this degree is in response to the

FLDOE change document to shift the CCC in Homeland Security currently housed under the AS in Criminal

Justice Technology.

10. Announcements

Summer College CASSC Meetings

Taurie Gittings-Wheeler reminded faculty members who will be on leave during Summer B to make sure they

find and send a substitute to represent them at the July meeting. Meeting will be held at the Wolfson Campus,

Room 2106 at 2:00 p.m. Taurie stressed the importance of having quorum in order to approve all curriculum

requiring approval. She also reminded CASSC members that there is no meeting in August.

Study Abroad Wrap-Up Session

Taurie invited CASSC members to a study abroad wrap-up session Rediscover La Cultura …. Opa! Italy and

Greece she led during Summer A (May 16 – 25, 2016). Students who participated, will share their experience

during this ten-day trip to Italy and Greece. Session will be held at the InterAmerican Campus on Friday, June

17, 2016 in room 401 from 09:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. She also invited everyone who has Instagram to check

out all the photos using #IACABROAD.
