News from The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Help Us Help Others

Wow - It’s that time of year again! The Christmas season begins this week with the first Sunday of Advent. The St. Vincent dePaul gift tree is in the church lobby decorated with tags of gift donation ideas for those in our community who are less fortunate. Some of our clients wouldn’t have Christmas gifts at all if it weren’t for the generosity of Our Lady of Victories parishioners. Please take a tag, return it with an unwrapped gift and make it a happier Christmas for someone. (We can also use gift bags, tissue and people to help us wrap). Please return your unwrapped donations to the church by Sunday, December 4th, but no later than Sunday, December 11th after all Masses. And please don’t forget our food pantry, it’s a busy time of year! We are especially in need of canned chicken and other types of canned meats, jelly, toothpaste, bathroom tissue, laundry detergent and all toiletries. Non-perishable food pantry donations, Christmas gifts and gift wrapping supplies can be left in the church lobby after any Mass. Freezer donations can be made by appointment. Call the St. Vincent dePaul voice mailbox at the parish office (732) 257-0077, ext. 421. Thank you!

THE PERFECT GIFT

This weekend we celebrate the First Sunday of Advent – there are signs and symbols everywhere telling us that we will soon be celebrating Christmas. Many people have begun decorating their homes by putting up lights and hanging wreaths on their front doors. The Advent Wreath is set up in Church and the giving trees are set up at all of the Church entrances. As Catholics, we know that Advent is about preparing ourselves for the birth of our Savior. It is a joyful season and one that we share with our friends and our families. It is also a season that can become very hectic and stressful, especially when it comes to certain “customs” - one of which is Christmas shopping! There are many people that we like to acknowledge at Christmas time with a gift but so often we don’t know what to get them; we wander around the mall and stores aimlessly trying to figure out “the perfect gift”. Well, we’ve come up with a great suggestion – gift cards! Through our Great Lakes Scrip program you can get all of your Christmas shopping done without ever leaving the comfort of your own home, without driving around aimlessly trying to find a parking spot, and without having to fight the crowds at the mall! On the Christmas giving trees in church there are many tags requesting gift cards - we hope you order these gift cards through the Scrip program. We can/will arrange to deliver the gift cards to the St. Vincent dePaul Society for you (just attach the gift tag to your order form).

Call or e-mail Liz at 732-850-1264 with any questions you may have. If you need an order form e-mail [email protected].

Orders must be received by: Expected Return Date: Monday, November 28th Friday, December 2nd Wednesday, November 30th Tuesday, December 6th Monday, December 12th Friday, December 16th

We desperately need bakers to supply home-made holiday cookies and treats to make this event successful! Remember the more cookies and treats we sell, the more money we can raise. You can drop off cookies Saturday, December 17th from 9AM- 12PM and before 5PM Mass. Please no store bought cookies. For more information contact Debby Wilson at 732-290-6149.
