OODs takes you back to the essence of mankind- an experience to rediscover the roots of manlihood.

With an individualistic shop experience and a source of inspiration which leads us back to the skilled manly jobs of the past, WOODs has developed a collection for the modern work-ing family man.

The man of today seeks excitement and acknowledgment in what he does. Recognition of masculinity is of high priority. Especially in shopping, where clothing is alas often chosen due to its style rather than its eco-effectiveness, it is important to discover this masculinity as well as the importance of eco-friendliness.

WOODS will provide men with this confidence, comfort and masculinity in wearing our jeans, enforcing this with a shop experience in which the man can go back to his roots in his own pace. By turning awareness into action, WOODs strives to involve men in the Cradle to Cradle philosophy regarding the textile industry.

Forming our brand identity, the following three values: courageous pride, slow enjoyment and triggering motion will be applied to different parts of the WOODs collection presented in the following pages.

Brand concept

he WOODs concept is based on two parallel components that both follow the same path. While the first one involves the nature of the man in a metaphorical way, the second one leads to the literal nature by conforming to the Cradle to Cradle ideals.The man will go back to the woods, meaning to the essence of mankind, by experiencing the jeans and the shop.By providing jeans that will consist of Tencel and hemp, having its origin entirely in literal nature, we ensure to produce a fully biodegradable denim.

Furthermore, WOODs has developed a unique idea for giving their jeans a second life and safeguarding the protection of forests at the same time. After the customer’s worn-out jeans are returned to the store, they will be processed into paper. This will then, at a later stage be able to be upcycled into a paper battery and produce energy for internal production processes. While all of our production methods require high and skilled labour, WOODs sees this opportunity to engage in social responsibility and fair labour practices at all times.

our fashion trends have had a predominant influence on the designs of the WOODs Pride A/W 13/14 collection.

To start off, the trend ‘Distressed Stripes’ has provided our collection with a touch of horizontal stripes and cut-and-sew insert panels in our jeans styles. Secondly, the trend ‘Shoulder Inserts’ has been an inspiration for our subtle colour-blocking and contrast textures in our knitwear. Moreover, the ‘Indigo Patchwork’ trend has inspired the collection to work with discrete tonal shades in the form of blocks in order to add a functional feel to our garments. As for the last inspirational trend, ‘Tuxedo Stripe Detail’ adds tuxedo-inspired stripes that are achieved through clean, contour panelling at side seams. This detail can also be found in WOODs’ jeans.

Target group  

description

ert is 49 years old. He holds a master degree of architecture with the Eindhoven University of Technology. As a shareholder, he has successfully been running an architecture firm in Rotterdam with his two co-partners for 12 years now. He therefore has an above average income. Together with his wife and two children, aged 14 and 16, he lives in a comfortable and modern family house in Utrecht.His daily routine starts off with coffee for breakfast while he reads the NRC Handelsblad. He lays high importance on being constantly up-to-date about current cultural events and political issues. Concerning the environment though, he is aware of the existing problems but has not made major contributions to solving these yet. After he prepares breakfast for his children, he rides his bicycle to Utrecht main station. From here he commutes to Rotterdam by train. Arriving back home from work in the evening, he goes grocery shopping with his wife to prepare a nice family dinner.

b Before going to bed, he enjoys reading books on his practical new iPad. Other hobbies of his are skiing and mountain biking. Once in a while, he has dinner with his friends who are all around the same age, 45-55 years old, and enjoys a good glass of wine with them. Generally, he is very dedicated to his job, but one of his priorities in his free time is spending quality time with his family. He enjoys going shopping with them but would prefer more of his own time when shopping for his personal wardrobe as he feels hurried when his wife and children have to wait for him. Quality and durability are very important to him in clothing.

attitude he fashion attitude of our target group will be in between early and late majority. This segment depicts the masses of a population as most people in society belong to this audience. They are influenced by the mainstream fashions but it takes them a bit longer to catch up with them and buy them. They are characterized by a careful attitude towards innovations in the market, are skeptical at times and avoid taking risks when it comes to new clothing trends. The WOODs collection therefore offers timeless clothing that can be easily combined and consists of basics and fashion basics which will directly be appealing to our target man. Since he does not buy new clothes on a very frequent basis, he is willing to spend more on good quality, attention to detail and durability in his clothes. WOODs provides these aspects for him. The fashion items our collection includes might be a little bit exceptional for our target man’s style. We see them as the icons of our collection. As something that is not necessarily our target man’s direct taste but which he would be motivated to buy in order to try something new and further develop his style.

-Star is one of WOODs‘ close competitors. Founded in the Netherlands in 1989, it introduced the raw, untreated denim and has since risen to become one of the most popular Dutch jeans brands. The brand follows a philosophy of ‘just the product’, stating that it places high value on craftsmanship and quality with attention to detail, just like WOODs. G-star also follows a sustainable programme to ensure manufacturing in an environmental and socially responsible way. Out of the different collection lines, their main Raw Correct Line is the most mainstream one, the line our target man would be interested in as well and therefore the most compatible with WOODs. The styles are described as ‘’the ideal base for every metropolitan wardrobe’’, all-day and every-occasion-like outfits. The price range is very similar to WOODs’ as well. A WOODs customer would definitely be interested in G-star as it is fully established on the market and proven a stylish yet reliable brand.

nother competitor of WOODs is Massimo Dutti. It competes with WOODs in a very different aspect from how G-star does, as it is not originally a jeans brand but focuses on a large variety of product categories. Founded in 1985, it was acquired by the Spanish retailer Inditex in 1991. The base of their concept lies in quality of materials and the combination of textures and styles with attention to detail. This coincides with the brand identity of WOODs. Massimo Dutti even offers a personal tailoring service which emphasizes tradition in tailoring techniques. This contributes to a vintage brand atmosphere which is an aspect that can be found in the WOODs concept as well. Massimo Dutti offers moderately trendy clothing at comparatively affordable prices. It appeals to a more mature target audience. Since their target consumer has an urban profile, appreciates quality and is a cultured person, WOODs’ target man would definitely be interested in the garments of Massimo Dutti as well.

he WOODs Pride A/W 13/14 collection will be characterized by comfort and practicality. Taking inspiration from the forgotten manly jobs of the past, our designs have been adapted to the modern man and his needs. Our three basic jeans fits: regular, tapered and relaxed, are easy to combine and each of them is suitable for different occasions.

Throughout the collection, our main recurring elements are blocks which enforce the feeling of practicality and functionality. They appear as our prime signature in the form of belt loops

on every pair of jeans. Furthermore, they appear as square pocket patches, as inserts sewn in the jeans, as patches stitched on top, as contrast knitting constructions, or are knitted into the garment in a subtle color difference. Additionally, every garment is recognizable by our signature stitch of two overlapping blocks.

To show the comfort element, we have added Tencel linings to the insides of the waistbands as well as Tencel pocketing and inside seams with special finishings. For closures, the signature WOODs hair button will be used. By stitching the WOODs label on the inside of the waistband, WOODs creates a nice

hanger-appeal in a retail environment.

As mentioned in the introduction, the three core values are also visible in our collection: While courageous pride is depicted in the manly, functional styles, slow enjoyment lies in the durability of the jeans and the comfort level of both jeans and soft knits. Triggering motion is implied in the WOODs care label by scanning the QR code.

Tencel Hemp s the WOODs Pride A/W 13/14 collection will focus on Dutch men aged 45-55, their lifestyle and needs as well as the climate of Holland have been taken into consideration in our choice of fabrics. Lighter knits for warmer winter days as well as heavier knits against the coldest days will be available.

In the first WOODs collection soft Tencel will be used in basics to create a great next-to-skin comfort. As for the jeans, the softness of Tencel will be mixed with the strength of hemp to create a comfortable yet durable denim. To provide our customers with a variety in light and heavy knits, different kinds of organic wools will be used e.g. cashmere for lightweight cardigans and heavy vigoreux sheep wool for thicker, heavyweight pullovers.

Every WOODs basic knit will appear in 3 of the basic colors. Only 4 knitted fashion basic will appear in two colors while the rest will appear in one color only. Subtle color contrasts will be applied by using main colors together with their shades.
