History of Education Journal - RHEhttp://seer.ufrgs.br/asphe

    [email protected].

    2The journal accepts for publication:

    a) articles related to the history and historiography of education, originating in

theoretical studies, research, methodological reflections and discussions in

    general pertaining to the field of historiography;

    b) papers that have been commissioned and translations;

    c) reviews, in which one expects the presentation of the content and

    comments about recent publications or academically acknowledged works;

    d) documents, materials considered important and difficult to access, which will

    provide additional information for studies.

The normalization of the journal follows standards established by the Brazilian

Association of Technical Standards - ABNT.

The texts submitted to History of Education Journal - RHE -must not yet have

been published, by Brazilian or foreign authors, written in portuguese or spanish.

Publication of texts in english and french will be accepted, if accompanied by the

    respective translation.

For publication, the texts undergo the following stages of assessment.

    Stage 1: analysis of form

This stage is the responsibility of the editors. The texts are assessed as to the

agreement with the general criteria ofHistory of Education Journaland the editorial

    line.

The following will be returned to the authors: 1) Articles that are configured as

the report on an experience; 2) that are configured only as a review of the literature;3) that are configured simply as a passage from a dissertation or thesis without the

appropriate adaptation; 4) that present in the form of a project or research report; 5)

that do not present a sufficiently profound analysis of the theme they propose to

discuss; 6) that do not focus the set of problems they discuss even indirectly on the

field of history of education; 7) that have too many errors of composition and also of

text structure, to the extent that it will make the text difficult to understand in part or

even as a whole; 8)that are merely descriptive and do not present an analysis of the

problems discussed; 9) that are not in the form of articles as generally practiced in

3periodicals; 10) that do not comply with the editorial rules of History of Education

    Journal.

Texts with these characteristics are returned to the authors with the suggestion

that they be rewritten for a new submission and assessment. The works that do not fit

into any of the characteristics above will be considered appropriate for the second

    stage.

Stage 2: peer analysis (peer review) as to merit

In the second stage, the article, without author identification, is sent to at least

two reviewers from the specific thematic field of the work (members of the editorial

council or invited ad hoc), from two different States, or from abroad. The information

    available in the journal cadaster is used to appoint the reviewers.The criteria for text assessment take into account: a) formal aspects of the text;

    b) currentness and relevance of the topic; c) originality and the fact that the paper

has not yet been published anywhere); d) clear indication of the objectives, e)

research methodology, f) up-to-date theoretical discussion; g) adequacy of the

bibliography; h) relevance of the documents to be published or attached.

The reviewers may fully accept, conditionally accept or refuse the article. Any of

the situations is justified by a descriptive report.Situations:

    a) when both reviewers accept the paper it goes on to the next phase;

    b) when both reviewers refuse the paper, the article is returned to the author

and no longer considered for publication in the journal.

    c) when one or both reviewers ask for the work to be rewritten, it is returned to

the author with a request for him/her to consider the report and reformulate

the article within at most thirty days. When the author sends the rewrittentext again and shows that he/she followed the reviewers suggestions, it is

    re-assessed.

Stage 3: review and adaptation of the paper to the journal standards

Once the paper has been accepted for publication, it is submitted to a review of

    language, normalization and formatting.

    5Invited authors

The History of Education Journal editors may invite people of acknowledged

academic production on the topic of history of education to publish in the journal. The

texts of the invited authors are submitted to the same stages of assessment as the

    other articles.

    Dossiers

The proposal of dossiers should be interinstitutional, discuss themes of

relevance to the field of history of education so as to broaden the academic debate

and foster research exchanges. There should be one presentation and five to nine

articles by authors affiliated to at least three institutions, with the participation of at

least one researcher affiliated to a foreign institution.

    Reviews

Reviews (critiques) will also be published. They must be according to the

French, they must be accompanied by the respective translation; c) they must be

heretofore unpublished, contain the complete identification of the work and be 14,000to 17,000 characters (with spaces) long, including, if there are, citations and

bibliographical references. d) they must be structured based on the description of the

content of the work, faithful to the main ideas, fundamentals, methodology and also

critical analysis, i.e., a dialogue of the author of the review with the work; e) they must

present text quality in terms of style and academic language.

The stages to evaluate the reviews are the same as used for articles.

    Documents

In the Documents section, materials considered important and difficult to access

are published, which may be used as additional information for studies.

The documents must be transcribed, seeking to preserve the original

characteristics as much as possible. At least the complete bibliographical reference

and its location (archives, library) must be informed, and they must be accompanied

    by a presentation.

    6Translations

The translations must be accompanied by an authorization of the author of the

main work or the Publishing house that originally published the text. If the work is in

the public domain, this procedure is not necessary, and the author of the translation

    is responsible for this information.

The translations must also be accompanied by the text in the original language.

    Works presented at events

Exceptionally, works that have already been presented at events can be

accepted for publication. The proposals are subject to the same criteria of

    assessment as unpublished originals.

It is the author who must inform the credits of the event at which the work wasoriginally presented.

    Key-words or descriptors

The abstracts must be accompanied by three to five key-words that will

describe, clearly and concisely, the thematic content of the text.

They must be written in such a way that it is easy to recover the text based on

    the indexers.

    Statement of responsibility

The authors are responsible for the veracity and the fact that the paper has

never been published. The manuscript submitted must be accompanied by a

statement of responsibility, signed by all the authors, in which they declare that the

study has not been published before, in part or in whole, in printed or electronic

media, nor sent for publication to other periodicals, and that all authors participated inthe intellectual elaboration of its content.

The model of the statement of responsibility is available at the end of these

    instructions.

    Conflict of interest

Conflicts of interest are situations in which the authors have interests that may

influence the process of elaborating the manuscripts. These are different kinds of

conflicts - personal, commercial, political, academic or financial - to which anyone is

7subject, and for this reason the authors must acknowledge and reveal them when

present in the statement of responsibility.

The model for the statement of responsibility is available at the end of these

    instructions.

    Transfer of copyright

can read, download, copy, distribute, print, research or reference the entire text f the

documents, process them for indexation, use them as input data of programs forsoftwares, or use them for any other legal purpose, without any financial, legal or

    technical barrier.

    Filing

The Lots of copies keep stuff safe - Lockss - is used to file the journal. It

ensures the safe, permanent filing of the journal cache. Lockss is a free software

developed by the Stanford University library, supported by the OJS environmentwhich allows preserving journals on line.

    Sources of funding

The authors must declare all sources of funding or support, institutional or

personal, to perform the study. The name of institution or person, city, state and

country of origin must be identified. This information must be included in the

statement of responsibility. The model of the declaration of responsibility is available at the end of these

people who collaborated to produce the study be mentioned in a footnote, even

though they do not meet the criteria of authorship. The authors are responsible for
