What is Social Bookmarking?

Social Bookmarking is taking the bookmark tool into hyperdrive. Essentially, you add a button to your browser toolbar that allows you to:Access your bookmarks from any computer.•Keep bookmarks in a centralized space where you can search and sort them more easily around projects, topics, and contexts.•Share bookmarks with other peers or students who are engaged in research related to your research.•Comment on websites and content as part of your bookmarking activities.•Comment on student documents using bookmarks.

BookmarkingBy now, the advantages of sharing and storing bookmarks this way should be apparent. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

You can sign up to receive an email when members of your group add bookmarks.

You can view the sites that another person has bookmarked and annotated. This is useful for following what a valued colleague has found, or for assessing a students’ research. Imagine if you could view the pages that a student has identified as useful and also view their annotations of those pages.
