Professional Learning is…

1. The primary strategy that school systems have to ensure that all educators continue to improve their effectiveness.2. The vehicle to improve individual, team, and school wide performance.3. The glue that fosters collective responsibility for the success of all students.4. The system for engaging all teachers in learning teams committed to continuous improvement.5. The great equalizer that ensures that all—not just some—students experience great teachinghttp://www.gtlcenter.org/sites/default/files/docs/ConcurrentSession2_KillionLearningForward.pdf

Page 17: Collaboration for Growth: Working with Colleagues to Enhance Collective Capacity Dr. Melissa Wlodarczyk-Hickey, Alicia Willett, Erin Wilson, Candice Irwin,

Collaboratively Set Goals

• Choose a platform– From blog to website

• Ongoing research and refining (organizing) our work• Sharing with staff and using in professional development

• Cycle of professional learning (providing, receiving, and sharing) related to content area literacy– 4 coaches for the price of 1

• Content area literacy is a broad umbrella

• Align professional work among large district• Strengthened our practice

– Using new protocols with teachers– Using new technology and resources– Recognize our own strengths and develop others by working with new people (forcing selves out of a comfort zone)
