Principal’s Report Last Friday, Coleambally Central School had a very busy
day indeed. The Minister for Education, Adrian Piccoli
came to school especially to present Andrew Evans in Year
9 with a certificate to acknowledge his outstanding
achievements as a Clay Target Shooter. Congratulations to
Andrew and his family. We are very proud of him and look
forward to hearing of his future successes in this sport.
18th
August 2015
Also on Friday was the much anticipated Science Fair in
keeping with the National Science Week theme: Making
waves – THE SCIENCE OF LIGHT. The day was an
outstanding success with all participants learning about the
complexity of light and generally enjoying the experience.
Thank you to the Science Department Mrs. Lamont and Mr.
Johnson for all their hard work and innovation in allowing
this great experience to come to fruition. Year 9 students,
who hosted the activities, should also be congratulated on
their enthusiasm toward the day and for their efforts to
thoroughly assist students, teachers and parents navigate
around the stations. Thanks to Ms. Sharon Breed for
offering her time to help out on the day and for her fabulous
cooking.
NAIDOC Celebrations Wednesday 19th
August.
This Wednesday our school will celebrate NAIDOC week
across K-10 to recognise the history, culture and
achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
peoples. The focus for this year’s celebrations is Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ unique and timeless
connection to land. The theme – We all Stand on Sacred
Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate – highlights
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ strong
spiritual and cultural connection to land and sea.
A full program of events will operate all day allowing
students to engage with the five stations of activities and
learning more about this fascinating culture. A program of
events is attached to this newsletter and parents are most
welcome.
Students K-6 are asked to wear their sports uniform.

Griffith City Library Visit
Yesterday Kinder – Year 2 were all able to meet and greet
author Louise Park and listen to her journey as a writer.
Louise read through some of her stories including new
releases. The day was finished with lunch at Griffith City
Park. The students and teachers thoroughly enjoyed this
excursion, the students represented CCS beautifully.

Secondary News 10W Geography
Year 10w Geography went out to the biodiversity block 2
with Coleambally Irrigations Mark Robb. Mark helped us by
sharing his extensive knowledge of the area’s history and
flora and fauna. We were investigating the quarry on the
block as part of our Land and Water management unit. We
compared the quarried site with the unquarried surrounding
areas. Our investigation focused on the human impact on the
land. Our research action plan will include ways of restoring
degraded land, such as the quarry.

Stage 5 Agriculture With all the rain, we have had much growth at the Ag Farm
this term. Stage 5 has delicious looking vegetable gardens
with many vegetables close to being ready to be harvested
(thank you to Mrs Burgess for her kind donation of
seedlings to help the students along with their gardens). Our
garlic is also growing strongly - we are hoping to be able to
harvest it and learn to plait it.
We now have our four goats and one sheep permanently
settled at school. It took a lot of work on Mr Woodman's
behalf to keep them fenced in, but now they are enjoying
their new luscious paddock! Our chickens are happy with
our two babies born this year growing healthily - one a
rather gorgeous looking Pekin/Silkie cross rooster. Mrs
Fattore kindly donated to us a Brown Silkie chook who has
grown into a beautiful rooster!
Our next major projects at the Ag farm are to plant out our
paddocks with the aid of our new watering systems. We
plan to plant one paddock with melons, pumpkins and the
like, and our other paddocks with a summer pasture for our
animals. Donations of any seeds would be most welcome.

Whole School News Science Week Poster Competition As part of Science Week 2015 a poster competition was run
by the CCS Science faculty. The aim of the poster
competition was to develop a poster to advertise CCS
Science Week Fair, the theme of which was Making Waves:
The Science of Light. Many entries were received with the
winner being judged by Mrs Lamont and Mrs Woodman.
Congratulations Eloise Jay (Year 4) on being judged the
winner. She received a Cool Science: Build Your Own
Maze kit and a $20 iTunes voucher.
Science Fair
The Coleambally Central School Science Fair went off with
a bang, albeit safely. Together we celebrated National
Science Week with the theme Making Waves - the Science
of Light. We had a wonderful range of groups from the
community visit including students from St Peter's Primary
School and Coleambally Preschool. Year 9 shone brightly in
their presentation of scientific activities to make the day a
huge success. Thank you to all who attended and to those
who helped.
