Principal’s message
Janvier is leaving us with lovely fresh snow so playing outside is really fun! Please remember that
our rule is “No snowpants—no sliding” This is in effect for all students so gentle reminders about
taking proper outerwear to school are always effective!
Winter Festival—we have the good fortune to have a concert by one of the special groups coming to
Prince George for the 34th FrancoFun Winter Festival. Our concert is at 1pm Feb 6th. You are
always welcome to attend our concerts!
CARNAVAL à LdB—our staff is busy planning special events and activities to celebrate Carnaval at
LdB. You will have more details as they are available.
Parking concerns: it feels like Groundhog Day but bears repeating. Once again we ask that people
drive slowly and carefully in our parking lot. Be aware of students and families. Respect the cross-
walk and the parking limitations. With the snow and poor visibility it is difficult but safety for our
students has to over-ride everything else.
Non Instructional Day—don’t forget that students do not attend school this Monday.
Spirit Days—we will publish some pictures of students wearing jerseys today! Our next Spirit Day is
Feb 15 when we will all wear NEON!
KINDERGARTEN INFORMATION NIGHT—we held our school’s session Thursday night and had a
large audience! Just remember that you must apply online starting Jan 29th. Then all paperwork
MUST be submitted to the school office on or before Tuesday, Feb 5th by 3:30pm. We anticipate
the need for a lottery since we are capped at 60 seats so only students with complete registration
packages will be eligible for the lottery. Children with sibling in the school MUST also submit their
registration packages by the same deadline.

ONLINE TRANSFER FOR SEPTEMBER 2019
The online student transfer process to request transfers for the 2019 - 2020 school year will be open for
applications from 9:00 am February 6, 2019 to 3:00 pm March 6, 2019. Our Gr 7s do not need to do this as
they are automatically registered at Duchess Park. Any Gr 7s wishing to attend a school other than
DUCHESS must go online and apply to that high school.
ABSENTEES / LATE ARRIVALS
École Lac des Bois has a “SAFE START” program. This means that if you do not call in to report an absence,
we will call you. If you do not answer, we will be calling your list of contacts to make sure your child is safe.
Please keep your contact information up-to-date. You will be asked the reason for the absence —this is
because the Health Unit needs to be notified when the absentee rate reaches 10%. It is far more efficient (and
less stressful for all) if you call and leave a message regarding absences or late arrivals. Please call: 250 562
1164, give your child’s name, division or teacher’s name and reason for the absence and the length of
the absence. The first bell rings at 8:30 and instruction in class starts at 8:35. At 8:35 students should be in
the classrooms as instruction is underway. If your child/ren arrive late, they MUST stop by the office to get a
late slip. Children who arrive late often feel out of place and sometimes, rather uncomfortable, because they
have missed the start of the day. Please help your child/ren get to school regularly and on time. This will set
permanent habits for your child/ren’s adult lives.
COLD WEATHER
Please help us by reminding your child/ren to dress appropriately for the colder
weather. The cut off is –19 including wind chill. Students are outside almost every
day for some period of time, and we have many complaining of cold hands and of
feeling really cold. Please ensure that your child/ren wear warm boots, mitts, winter
coats and hats. Your assistance is appreciated as with colder weather approaching, this will
become even more important. For more information, you can find the School District’s Cold
Weather policy on the district website www.sd57.bc.ca.

LEARNING COMMONS / BIBLIOTHEQUE
We are talking about identity in the library. Reading a book allows a student to try on a different identity! Ask your child whose identity they tried on recently! The kindergarten and grade 1 students are hearing books by Emile Jadoul. Check this author out online! We have now completed labeling the French fiction books and we have organized them by genre. This matches what bookstores and public libraries do to help you find books you might like. We are hoping it helps our students find more books to enjoy! Don't forget to check out the public library programs for our upcoming ProD day! Another family
literacy event is Saturday January 26th from 10:30 to 11:30 for 0 to 9 year olds:
the Todd Parrpalooza, to celebrate the author Todd Parr.
Yes we have a bus!
We have been working toward a safer solution for the challenges of our parking, the parking
lot and the volume of traffic in the morning. We are now offering a free SHUTTLE BUS
service every morning from the CN Centre to the school. Students can register for this
service. Parents drive to the CN parking lot to the side near the soccer fields. The bus
meets you there and you ensure your child boards the bus. It leaves at 8:15. Students
arrive at school on time and you get to avoid the parking lot! (Win Win )
