• Was a Major League baseball player

• Joined the Air-force

• He was considered special and played on baseball teams

• Most of his time was spent on the beach tanning and drinking

• He is in the baseball Hall of Fame

• He was in the song because he was a important baseball figure.

• During this time morale in the soldiers was beginning to rise.

• He soon became a national sensation.

• His music is still considered to be some of the best ever produced.

• Was the Soviet Union’s leader during the cold war.

• Is responsible for the de-sanitation of the Soviet Union.

• Sped up the space programs.

• Although he is dead his presence is still felt greatly in Russia

• While on a trip in America he liked the agriculture in Iowa, and adapted it in Russia.

• He was the baking force for the Soviets during the cold war.

• Was the first satellite ever launched into space.

• Was launched by Russia.

• Caused the US to scramble to get their own satellite up.

• It began the great space race.

• It orbited the Earth at 18,000 mph.

• It took only 96.2 minutes to complete each orbit.

• Was the communist leader of Cuba.

• Joined together with the Soviet Union.

• Allowed Soviet’s to place nuclear missiles in Cuba.

• So that they were in striking distance of the US.

• Relations between US and Cuba are still limited today.

• Travel to Cuba is not allowed.

• Castro has influenced many world leaders of today.

U2 Continued

• Was a US spy plane.

• Created during the Cuban missile crisis.

• Used to spy on Soviet’s who were putting nuclear missiles on Cuba.

• A U2 was shot down, this increased tensions between US and Cuba.

• The U2 can fly at an altitude of 70,000 feet.

• There were only 86 ever made.

• It escalated tensions in the US and almost lead to a US invasion of Cuba.

• Was the 35 president of the United States.

• Kennedy ran against Richard Nixon in the 1960 elections for the democratic party.

• Kennedy during his nomination speech set forward his ideas of a new Frontier.

• His speeches are still quoted today and are very inspiring to many young people.

• He led America into the space race and set goals for the US that later became reality such as the Moon Landing.

• Served in the military as a commander of the Motor Torpedo Boats PT-109 and PT-59 during WWII.

• He was an important figure for the United States in the beginning of the cold war.

• It was an invasion of Cuba by the US.

• The US didn't directly invade Cuba, they funded a paramilitary group which intended to overthrow the Cuban government.

• The CIA funded the paramilitary group.

• It was the beginning of the Cuban Missile Crisis which was a major part of the Cold War.

Moon Shot

Moon Shot Continued

• The US successfully launched astronauts to the moon.

• It marked a turning point in the Space Race between the US and Soviet Union.

• America had won the race and met the goal of JFK to land a man on the moon.

• It has led to many inventions and improvements not only in the space programs but in civilian life also.

• The Apollo 11 crew collected 47.5 pounds of lunar material for return to Earth.

• After this mission the space race had pretty much been won by the US.
