Coffee & PortCoffee & Port
The Port of Vancouver provides economic benefit to our community through leadership, partnership and stewardship in marine and industrial development.
• In 2008, the port rented several community centers to get our commissioners into the public. We had a low turnout.
• In 2009, we went with a televised forum moderated by a local reporter. We attempted to get phone calls and people in the audience to ask questions, but direct interaction was still low.
• In 2010, we went a new direction.
We decided to combine the previous two years, but we needed more…
1. More locations
2. More opportunities for direct engagement
3. More ways to gather information
4. More community interaction with our elected officials
5. A continuing ability to share the results broadly
SETTING COMMISSION EXPECTATIONS:
1. Getting out in the community with staff support
2. Advertising changes
3. The opportunity to talk policy over coffee
4. Venue adjustments
5. Informal survey changes
6. Changes to the televised forum
