graphs and to Gleneath Camera Club for organ-izing this year’s Outing.

I look forward to summer and anticipate go-ing fishing for that big fish, or taking a perfect photograph from our fishing boat. Enjoy your summer and best of luck taking that perfect photo.

By the time you read this our Outing at Can-dle Lake will have started. Weather permitting we will have a wonderful time.

This will be my last AGM as Chairperson as I am stepping down to let someone else with new ideas and energy continue steering this great organization.

We have had another successful year with competitions and the challenge of getting that perfect photograph. I am interested to see how many “bear” pictures were entered in the 2014 Outing.

The idea of having clubs join PRPA as a member club seems to be working well. The Moose Jaw Camera Club joined as a new club this year and we are pleased to have them. We were sad to see that Wild Rose Camera Club disbanded and hope that more from Alberta join us as individuals or within a club membership.

We have also experimented the last couple of years with some new competitions. These will be reviewed to see how successful they have been and the Board will let the member-ship know if there are any changes. I think all of our competitions are interesting and chal-lenging so I encourage you to enter any or all of them in the coming year.

Thank you to the Board who keep us run-ning and to all who judged, or entered photo-

Print Circuit Report by Maureen Sinclair

Three Print circuits continue to circulate be-tween Saskatchewan and Alberta. Most run quite smoothly with six people per binder although seven has worked.

Two people have left Circuit #2 this year, but I have one name on the waiting list for a total of twelve participants.

The circuits are a good way to try out new tech-niques and to hone one’s skills with comments from other photographers. As low tech as these books are, they still seem to be meeting a need.

I enjoy coordinating the circuits and hope to continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

The 2015 – 2016 season is looking like it will be an exciting time for the Foothills Cam-era Club. Over the past year we have had many members step up and organize field trips with a variety of different focuses. Some have been to experience a special opportunity like our visits to the Turner Valley Gas Plant, some have been a challenge to step out of our comfort zones with a focus on looking at life from a different perspective, and some have purely been for the joy of hanging out with people of a similar in-terest.

Over the past year, we have had the pleasure of hosting speakers such as Alan Dyer, Jeremy Fokkens and Chris Large, just to name a few. We have been running a special interest group for beginners both in the field and in stu-dio settings. In the coming year we are even looking forward to a field trip to Churchill for

12 lucky members.

At 133 members strong, FCC has a diverse base of different experience levels and photo-graphic tastes. In an effort to make sure that all members have the opportunity to get the most out of their affiliation we have been empower-ing our membership to get more involved by organizing field trips, providing learning oppor-tunities and increasing their participation in challenges and competitions, both within the club and without.

The Foothills Camera Club is looking for-ward to trying something new with a partnership between its PRPA representative and its CAPA representative. In an unprecedented effort, they will be working together to increase awareness and participation from their member base with both of these illustrious groups by creating a unified vision and voice.

Competition Chair Report by Ann Dies

I welcome you all to the Annual Outing. I hope that you all have a fun time visiting with friends and meeting new ones. Candle Lake is abundant with all that can be found in northern Saskatchewan. Take advantage of your time here.

Entries in the competitions increased overall this year. There were 393 entries in total, 148 pictures in the Outing competition, up from 77 last year, 116 in the Fall competitions – down from 154 last year and 129 in the Spring competitions which was about the same. The two new competitions, the Ann Dies slideshow in the fall and the Print Portfolio in the spring continue to have poor entry. We will run them one more year and then reassess. If entries con-tinue to be low they may be discontinued. These are fun competitions to enter so please check them out and see what you can come up with. It would be a shame to lose them.

Thanks to all the judges for your time and impar-tiality when judging the competitions. You have done an excellent job. I would also like to extend my thanks to the club reps for all your hard work organ-izing judges, filling out the forms, compiling com-ments and returning the results and images to me promptly. I appreciate it as it makes my job easier. Thanks to all the entrants. Once again your images were outstanding as you will see from the presenta-tion at the Outing Saturday night. Well done.

We have a new member club this year – the Moose Jaw Camera Club. Welcome and thank you for entering the Spring competitions. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your images in the future.

Some housekeeping issues:

1. Remember to title your images. Something unique is appreciated. The judges for last year’s Outing competition were a bit bewildered by all the “Cameron Lakes”.

2. Please remember to label and size your entries according to the criteria in the Handbook (which is always available on the website).

3. The theme for the Russell competition this year is Fast/Slow.

4. Judging club list for 2015/16 follows. Save it!

Have an enjoyable Outing experience and a hap-py summer.

One June 2, 2015, a good crowd of camera club members, along with guests, met at the Parktown Hotel for an end of year awards ban-quet. After a hiatus of several years, the ban-quet was reinstated in 2014 and was very well received. It is an evening of fellowship, food and enjoyment of the year’s best work. The results of the year-end competitions were an-nounced along with the excellence awards for achievement in the monthly clinics.

One of the highlights of the fall program was a presentation from Grey Cup photographers explaining their assignments, positions on the field and how they transferred their images.

Club members who shared their travel imag-es and technological knowledge included Scott Prokop, Karen Pidskalny, Ian Sutherland, Jan-nik Plaetner and Adele Wagner. They were joined by guest presenters Robin and Arlene Karpan, John Perret and Colin Chatfield. PRPA and CAPA each had an evening while the regular results nights and various member participation events and required meetings filled the other meeting nights.

During the summer, the club has planned two outings per month culminating on August 29th with a scavenger hunt, which proved very popular last year in its debut.

The club will be organizing and hosting the photography competition and exhibit at the Sas-katchewan Art Showcase during the Saskatoon Exhibition in August.

The club members took time at the Christ-mas party to celebrate with our archivist and long time PRPA member, Vern Sanders as he marked 50 years with the club. An amazing accomplishment indeed!

I also enjoy the club reports – it’s always inter-esting to see what other clubs are doing. I aim to get each club to report once a year. The AGM and board meeting reports are important but not as ex-citing – I try to make them concise with just the rel-evant information so they aren’t too tedious to read!

I would be happy to include more educational articles if anyone wants to submit something, pref-erably with your own photos as illustrations.

I’ve enjoyed working on the newsletter over the past 15 years and, if you’ll have me, I should be good for a few years yet.

Editor’s Report by Stan Hingston

This month’s Prairie Focus issue completes my 11th year as PRPA newsletter editor. I took on the position in the fall of 2000, 15 years ago. Gwen McNichol served as editor for four years, from the fall of 2009 to summer of 2013, while I was Chair. The newsletter itself is 55 years old, so was around for 40 years before my involvement. I’d love to see some of the first year’s issues sometime if Shirley has found any in the archives.

Technology has changed quite a bit just since I began, making the job much easier. Layout using Publisher is fast and easy. My color laser printer allows me to use color on any page I want, prints both sides, and collates, ready to staple. Sending pdf versions by email and publishing them on the web-site has reduced the cost of printing and mailing, as only about half the members request paper copies. And the total number of subscribers has also de-clined over the years. I used to print well over 100 copies; now we’re down to about 25.

My favorite part of the newsletter is publishing the winning images from the previous year’s com-petitions. I spread them out over the 4 issues, al-ways saving the Outing competition winners for the Summer issue. In the Summer issue we also publish the full list of winners (but not the images) for all the previous year’s competitions.
