On March 23, Prof. Jian WANG, on behalf

of SFI, attended the opening ceremony of

Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macau FinTech

Talents Plan. Prof. Ming LIU, associate

director of SFI, said that this plan aimed to

nurture more FinTech talents for the world

and boost finance cooperation in the Greater

Mostly OM 2019 Workshop at CUHK-Shenzhen

The 2019 Mostly Workshop will take place in

May 31-June 2, 2019 at the campus of The

Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.

This will also be the 10th anniversary of the

Mostly OM workshop. Mostly OM 2019 will be

co-sponsored by the Production and Operations

Management Society (POMS), and will continue

the tradition of featuring plenary presentations on

some of the most advanced topics in operations

management and related fields, and will

additionally feature dozens of parallel sessions.

Transformation and Upgrading Are Vital for

China’s Economy and Stock Market; Real Estate is

Still Promising

On March 16, Dr. Mingchun SUN, associate

president of Chinese Financial Association of Hong

Kong, analyzed the world and China’s investment

prospect at the SFI Distinguished Lecture Series. He

believed that although the U.S. economy was

stagnate, the world might not be subject to

economic recession or financial crisis in 2019. The

biggest risk for the world market was from Europe.

For China, transformation and upgrading were

encouraging for economy and stock market

development, while real estate industry was still

Enrolment of Master of Science in Business

Management Programme

The Master of Science in Business Management

Programme is designed to nurture entrepreneurs and

professional talents who wish to acquire outstanding

innovation ability and excellent financial knowledge.

The students are expected to acquire comprehensive

knowledge about frontier management practices,

think systemically, and be able to solve business

problems in an innovative and entrepreneurial way.

The programme focuses on management and finance,

and offers two concentrations, including

entrepreneurship management and investment

SME-CDC：Month of Career Exploration

Analysis and Policy Outlook on U.S. Economy

in April 2019

The U.S. GDP growth of the first quarter was

mainly driven by short-term factors. Although net

export and inventory investment were above

expectations, individual consumption and

investment that drove economic growth before

were under the average of the same period in the

past few years. It was expected that economic

growth would lose the momentum in the future.

The latest data of inflation indicated that the

economy growth would slow down even though

the economy of the world was still recovering.

Under such background, it was estimated that the

Federal Reserve would keep interest rate

unchanged on the FOMC conference in April, and

release messages good for the market.

initiated and organized by CUHK-Shenzhen

SFI. The top three teams selected by the

organizer in the competition of 2018 began their

visit in Shenzhen and Hong Kong for three

days.

Students from CUHK-Shenzhen SME Are in

Top-four of 2019 L'Oreal BRANDSTORM

With the guidance of Prof. Stella SO, Yiwen QI

and Qi YE from SME, and Keyi JIANG from

Peking University Guanghua School of

Management formed the LKL&Co. team to enter

intense competitions. They finally got into the

final in Shanghai on April 2, and their team was

one of the top four teams in China. Read More

Championship in 2019 HSBC (South China)

On April 21, the 2019 HSBC business case

competition in South China was concluded and

the team from CUHK-Shenzhen SME won the

championship in South China with the

professional guidance of Prof. Stella SO and

Prof. Lei MAO.

Competition Visited Shenzhen and Hong Kong

IE Venture Day (Vday) was held at the research

institute of The Chinese University of Hong

Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen). It was

jointly organized by the School of Management

and Economics (SME) of CUHK-Shenzhen,

Center of Innovation, Design and

Entrepreneurship (CIDE) of CUHK-Shenzhen

The Interview with the First Cohort of

Graduates from SME

In the summer of 2018, we had the first cohort of

graduates from CUHK-Shenzhen SME. With the

high expectations, knowledge and perspective the

university endowed with, they started their career or

continued the further study. Now, they work or study

in different areas of the world. We are pleased to

meet them again and invite them to introduce their

new life, study or career and give suggestions to high

school students on how to choose universities in

future.

In order to enhance the employment

competitiveness of SME students, and support

them in the growth from “academic excellence” to

“business leadership”, SME-CDC launched the

Month of Career Exploration annually. In this year,

it was officially launched on Mar 22, and lasted

until Apr 28. During this period, CDC organized a

series of activities covering 9 categories (more

than 20 events).

Career Mentorship Program was initiated and

designed by SME-CDC. The objective is to set up

a platform for students and mentors to exchange

ideas and experiences. Since the inception in

2015 with the first phase, the program has won

high praise from students and mentors. Recently,

SME-CDC interviewed the mentors and students

of 2018 Career Mentorship Program, and invited

them to share their experiences.

Tencent

On April 16, invited by Tencent Company’s

university affairs department, professors of SME

visited the Tencent Building of Binhai and met Dr.

Ching Law, general manager of Tencent

advertising, his colleagues and leaders in charge of

the cooperation with universities. They reached a

consensus on case study and teaching collaboration,

and discussed about the participation in the forum

of this year and other potential research

SFI-CDC：Advanced Seminar on the Strategy

for Finance Talents

As the opening of China’s financial market is

deepening and foreign securities firms are

increasing shares and expanding businesses, the

Chinese and foreign securities firms face the fierce

competition for finance talents. How the both

sides exert and enhance their own advantages, and

adopt strategies to attract talents in the new era of

finance regulation is significantly vital. On March

15, the Advanced Seminar on the Strategy for

Finance Talents was jointly held by Shenzhen

Securities Association, Chainshine Financial

As our students received job offers from well-

known companies, we also received good news

from Ying WANG from Class of 2017. As of

April 11, she has received offers of Economics

Ph.D. from Ohio State University and University

Our Study Life in Switzerland

As of April 24, eight students from Master of

Science in Economics programme have the

opportunity to study at prestigious universities

at abroad. Hechen YU and Qian LI from class

of 2017 are now studying at The Graduate

Institute Geneva. The exchange study lasts for
