Biographical Information

Jacques Maruette was born in Laon, France in 1637.

Jacques went to a Jestuit school. He was a Jestuit

priest. He discovered the Mississippi river also

known as the "Mississippi."

Marquette died in 1675 because of dysentery on his

way to the Indians to preach there.

Bay , Wisconsin to establish a mission with the

Indians near Ottowa, Illionois but he became sick so

he spent the winter in a hut. He explored lake

Well he was the one who discovered the Mississippi

river and that impacted us today because if he didn't

discover the Mississippi river then he wouldn't have

a statue.

He was sent to expand the French knowledge. His

king was King Louie the 14th. The reason why he

discovered and explored the Mississippi river is

because he heard rumors about it.

Jacques Marquette had a map and try found out

that the Mississippi river is not a rumor. That is

why louisianna is call LOUIEsianna.

Marquette's King's name was Louie and he owned

Louisianna so that's why they called it that.
