Jinks joins the previously an- nounced lineup of Red Dirt mu- sicians that includes the Randy Rogers Band, Casey Donahew, Shooter Jennings, Parker McCollum and Ben Grillet. Jinks played in a heavy metal band in his teens. His country de- but album was re- leased in 2016, and his hits include “Must Be The Whiskey,” “Cast No Stones” and “Loud and Heavy.” Red Dirt Country Fest in Battery Park will kick off July 27 at 5 p.m. Offering so much music, there are several ticket options, including a rock star lounge. Jennings is a son of Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter. The Battery Park outdoor con- cert series has been a popular draw for music fans in recent years. Now in a fifth year, there are five concerts slated, down from last year’s record-breaking 11. While the 2018 lineup boasted Post Malone, Kesha and Pitbull, the 2019 offering is decidedly country, covering three of the five concerts. Back on May 23, “The Outlaws and Renegades Tour,” featured Travis Tritt, the Char- lie Daniels Band and the Cadillac Three, to begin the series. The four others include: June 13: Country newcomer Kane Brown, a winner of three American Music Awards, with opening act Ryan Hurd. July 18: In This Moment, Kills- witch Engage, Clutch and Saul get the spotlight on the rock bill. The city had sued Laresa Jones last month for $50,536, the cost to replace the equip- ment after Jones crashed into it on Nov. 1. District Judge Zachary Hind- man dismissed the case Tues- day after assistant city attorney Caleb Christopherson said in a motion to dismiss that the city had accepted a settlement of- fer from Jones’ auto insurance carrier. The dismissal motion did not divulge the settlement amount. City legal staff could not be reached for comment Friday. The insurance company had initially refused to pay for the damages, leading the city to file the suit against Jones her- self in Woodbury County Dis- trict Court. Jones, 30, of Sioux City, cur- rently faces a criminal charge of second-offense operating while intoxicated for the incident. According to court documents filed in the case, Jones lost con- trol of her southbound Subaru Crosstrek at about 9:30 p.m. while driving in the 3000 block of Hamilton Boulevard. Her vehicle left the roadway and struck the control box, knock- ing out power to traffic signals, before driving off of a retaining wall and coming to rest in the Minerva’s restaurant parking lot at 2945 Hamilton Blvd. She is scheduled to stand trial for OWI in July. City of Sioux City settles lawsuit with driver BRIEFS Man killed in vehicle rollover near Hornick HORNICK, Iowa — A man has died in a single-vehicle rollover near Hornick. The victim’s identity has not yet been released. According to a Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office news release, a passerby noticed the vehicle in the ditch in the 2900 block of Grundy Avenue about three miles north of Hornick at 5:27 a.m. Friday. Upon arrival, first responders determined the man was dead and had been alone in the vehicle. The accident remains under investigation. 2 Macy men found not guilty of beating OMAHA — A federal jury on Thursday acquitted two Macy, Nebraska, men of an assault in which another man was seriously injured. The jury found Alyas Bertucci, 18, and Dajuan Parker, 20, not guilty of assault in Indian country resulting in serious bodily injury. The trial began Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Omaha. The two had been charged with taking part in an Aug. 18 assault of Herbert Morris, 67 at the time, at a Macy home. The two, along with Taylor Morris, were accused of kicking and stomping on Her- bert Morris after Taylor Morris had pushed him to the ground. According to court documents, Taylor Morris, Bertucci and Parker were fighting with Devon- tae Lasley in the front yard when Herbert Morris, who is Lasley’s grandfather, intervened. Herbert Morris suffered seri- ous head and brain injuries and was hospitalized in the intensive care unit at a Sioux City hospi- tal before being transferred to an Omaha rehabilitation facility, court documents said. Taylor Morris, 20, of Macy, pleaded guilty last month to as- sault in Indian country resulting in serious bodily injury. Sentenc- ing was scheduled for Aug. 5. Washington man arrested in Rock Rapids ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa — A man from Washington state faces mul- tiple charges after he was stopped in Rock Rapids with a trailer sto- len from Minnesota. According to a press release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, at around 10:32 p.m. Thursday, a Lyon County deputy stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on S Fairlamb Street in Rock Rapids. The driver, 52-year- old Michael Morris of Kent, Washington, was arrested and charged with six misdemeanors and a felony. The misdemeanor charges in- clude failure to have a valid driv- er’s license; failure to provide security against liability; regis- tration violation; possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia; possession of methamphetamine drug paraphernalia; and operat- ing a vehicle without a required ignition interlock device. Morris was also charged with second-degree theft, a class D felony, when it was discovered that the trailer he was pulling was stolen from Rock County, Min- nesota. He was held in the Lyon County Jail. Safety program in Sioux City: Gotta Brain, Getta Helmet SIOUX CITY — The Sioux City Police Department on Friday re- newed a summer bicycle safety and brain injury prevention awareness program that rewards children seen wearing bicycle hel- mets with free ice cream treats. Now in the fifth year of the pro- gram, children who wear helmets while biking will receive a “ticket” for a free cold treat from Dairy Queen. The rewards are part of the You’ve Been Ticketed initiative by Opportunities Unlimited, DQ and the police department to ed- ucate and encourage children to take proper safety precautions while cycling. Police officers and volunteers will hand out the tickets over the summer. The program is an extension of Opportunities Un- limited’s brain injury prevention program called “Gotta Brain ... Getta Helmet,” which seeks to equip and educate children to protect themselves. Police are looking for volunteer “trailblazers” to assist by riding trails and handing out tickets. There are 10 mountain bikes available to ride when helping carry out You’ve Been Ticketed, and those interested may call 712- 279-6424. Dem candidate Bullock coming to NW Iowa SIOUX CITY — Democratic presidential candidate Steve Bull- ock is making his third campaign swing through Iowa, and will make his first stops in Siouxland on Monday. SIOUX CITY — The City of Sioux City has reached a settle-ment agreement and dismissed its lawsuit against a driver who destroyed a traffic signal control box on Hamilton Boulevard.

Man killed in vehicle rollover near Hornick

HORNICK, Iowa — A man has died in a single-vehicle rollover near Hornick.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

2 Macy men found not guilty of beating
