Codes and Conventions of Indie Rock Magazines Codes Always include an image on the front cover of the artist that will be the main point of the magazine. The artist in the main image would usually have messy hair, casual clothes The image would be in a dark setting and there would be shadows. The main target audience for these magazines are 15-19 year olds who are interested in rock/indie music The design for the name of the magazine should be in block because it tells the audience that the magazine is quite edgy. Buzz words are not necessary all the time The font used is mainly times new roman because it is simple and the italic writing gains attention and makes the magazine look more affective.

Conventions of the Indie Rock GenreConventions Usually linked to the Alternative Rock genre People involved in the Indie Rock Genre have a laid back,

relaxed approach to life. Can be seen to have the lifestyle of constantly partying.

They wear casual clothing of dark colours. E.g. black skinny jeans, checkered shirts, old boots, grey hats, etc. They may have tattoos.

The genre can be seen as quite plain and serious at times but intense as well.

The Indie Rock genre originated in the United Kingdom so fans of the genre are usually British.

Indie Rock artists tend to like natural looks and prefer to be perceived as down to earth rather than staged and fake.

Indie Rock artists like to seem authentic so they have their lyrics contain topics that they are passionate about e.g. hatred. They also show this by playing their own instruments at gigs rather than just having a band play for them.
