In what way’s do your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions?

Page 2: Codes and conventions

The elements I used in my magazine were...

•Photos•Fonts•Text•Headlines•Price•Barcode•Layout•Contents page

•Articles•Colour scheme•Page numbers•Front cover•Date•Writing style•Issue number•Cover lines

Page 3: Codes and conventions

I chose to put some cover lines in boxes as it shows they are important and stand out on the page, not all music magazines use this feature so here I have not followed the convention. MOJO do not use the same conventions as I do so I could not show an example of having cover lines in boxes, although what I have chosen to show could be put in boxes

Having the main article bigger than the rest of the cover lines and right by the main images shows that this is who the article is about. MOJO present this element in the same way, although it is not next to the image.

Using key words such as “Exclusive” draw the reader in which is a key thing on a front cover of a magazine. MOJO didn’t use key words such as “exclusive” as their music genre is slightly different to mine.

How did I present these How did I present these elements?elements? I used a large masthead a

the top of the page, overlapped by the main image. Which is very common in other magazines, such as my example taken from MOJO magazine.

I used a large picture for my main image which is typical for most music magazines, along with smaller images which I chose not to use. MOJO used the same element but had the picture take up the whole page

I fore grounded the artists name so that it would be the first thing the audience see, MOJO also do this in their magazines, although, in this circumstance MOJO have not fore grounded at the band’s name.

MOJO seem to be more simplistic about their articles, and get straight to the point, but as their article isn’t an interview there is not as much to talk about, unlike mine which is a lengthy interview with “JESSIE”

When creating my magazine I used page numbers and added the website to the bottom of the page, I thought I would do this as other magazines I looked at did this, although as I chose to compare my magazine with MOJO they did not do this.

Using large images attracts the reader and is usually the first thing they look at, so having a bold, colourful imagine to look at will encourage the reader to read the interview. The picture in the MOJO magazine sells the story, as you can clearly tell that the man in the white t-shirt is doing something as he is brought to the front and put in different coloured clothing to the rest of the band members.
