Definitions

Unless expressly stated otherwise, for the purposes of this CSD:

(a) terms defined in the Wholesale-Retail Code Part 1 (Objectives,

Principles and Definitions) shall apply; and

(b) capitalised terms relating to the titles of Data Items or Data

Transactions described in CSD 0301 (Data Catalogue) shall have

the meaning attributed therein.


1 Introduction

1.1 Overview

1.1.1 Trading Parties exchange data with the Market Operator using interfaces

with the Market Operator systems, which are defined in the Interface

CSDs. These include both transactional interfaces and interfaces for

interactive data submission.

1.1.2 In order to ensure managed data exchange between Trading Parties and

the Market Operator:

(a) Data Items must be defined;

(b) Methods for transactional exchange of Data Items i.e. Data

Transactions, must be defined; and

(c) Methods for interactive submission of Data Items must be defined.

1.2 Purpose

1.2.1 This CSD provides the definitions for Data Items and Data Transactions

used for Trading Party interaction with the Central Systems.

1.3 Scope

1.3.1 The Data Catalogue in this CSD provides:

(a) a logical definition of all Data Items exchanged between Trading

Parties and the Market Operator, irrespective of the interface

through which they are exchanged, noting that not all Data Items

are exchanged between Trading Parties and the Market Operator

via Data Transactions; and

(b) a logical definition of all Data Transactions used to exchange Data

Items between Trading Parties and the Market Operator via the

transactional interfaces described in CSD 0401 (Transactional

Interface for Trading Parties having a high volume of Data

Transactions) and CSD 0402 (Transactional Interface for Trading

Parties having a low volume of Data Transactions). For the

avoidance of doubt, both of these transactional interfaces support

all Data Transactions defined in this CSD.

1.3.2 This CSD does not define the methods for interactive submission of Data

Items. These are outlined in CSD 0404 (Interface for the provision of tariff

data and other data sets from Trading Parties).


1.3.3 This CSD does not define any information exchange required between

Trading Parties.


2 Data Items

2.1 Overview

2.1.1 Data Items are defined using the following parameters:

Data Item Number Uniquely identifies the Data Item for use throughout the CSDs

Data Item Name Descriptive name of the Data Item

Data Item Type Defines the data type of the Data Item (see Section 2.2 of this CSD for further details)

Member of unique serial set

yes/no When yes each instance of the Data Item is unique i.e. no two instances of the Data Item can have the same value

Member of Valid Set

yes/no When yes this data item may only be populated with data from a defined set. Note that this may include data items without an explicitly defined valid set: for example, a SPID belongs to an implicit valid set, the list of SPIDs held by the Market Operator. Otherwise, the valid set for each relevant Data Item is provided in Section 3.2 of this CSD

Data Group This groups items together for ease of reference. See Section 2.3 for further details

Data Owner The Market Operator or relevant Wholesaler or Retailer which is the Data Owner for the Data Item

Description Describes the correct usage of the Data Item

Further Details Provides further information for the Data Item

Used in Data Transaction

A list of all Data Transactions in which the Data Item may be included. Where this is empty, the Data Item is either included as part of the wrapper for every Data Transaction, is included in reports only, or is submitted interactively as described in CSD 0404 (Interface for the provision of non-transactional Data Items from Trading Parties).

2.1.2 Where a Data Item may contain personal data which may lead to the

identification of an individual, this will be highlighted in Further Details of

the Data Item, with the identifier “May contain or lead to the identification

of personal data.”.

2.2 Data Item types

2.2.1 Data Item types define the form that the Data Item must conform to. If the

Data Item does not conform to this it will fail basic validation. Data Items

can be the following:

(a) UTF-8String(x) – A string containing a maximum of x characters,

even if the number of bytes used to encode the characters is


greater than x, and consisting only of valid printable Unicode UTF-

8 characters to the extent required to allow for the use of characters

from Western European Latin alphabets, and spaces;

(b) ASCIIString(x) – A string containing a maximum of x characters,

and consisting only of printable ASCII characters in the range 21hex

to 7Ehex inclusive. Note that this excludes spaces;

(c) decimal(x.y) – A number containing a maximum of x digits before

the decimal point and y digits after the decimal point;

(d) numerical(x) – A signed whole number with a maximum of x digits;

(e) non-negative integer(x) – A positive whole number with a maximum

of x digits and zero (0);

(f) positive integer(x) – A positive whole number with a maximum of x

digits;

(g) percentage – a decimal number to 2 decimal places, representing

a percentage, where 100% is represented by 100. The valid data

value range is >= 0 and <= 100 unless expressly stated otherwise;

(h) boolean – contains the value 1 or 0 only;

(i) Tariff Lookup Table – as defined in Part 1 of the Wholesale- Retail

Code;

(j) Tariff Band Table – as defined in Part 1 of the Wholesale- Retail

Code;

(k) Block Tariff Table – as defined in Part 1 of the Wholesale- Retail

Code;

(l) Standby Capacity Block Table – as defined in Part 1 of the

Wholesale-Retail Code;

(m) date – date in the format as defined in CSD 0400 (Common

interface technical specifications). This format will conform to the

ISO 8601 standard, which represents date as: YYYY-MM-DD; or

(n) date/time – date and time stamp in the format as defined in CSD

0400 (Common interface technical specifications). This format will

conform to the ISO 8601 standard, which represents date and time

as: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS.


2.3 Data Item groups

2.3.1 Data Items are grouped as shown in the following table:

3.3 Error / Return Code Set

3.3.1 The valid set for data item Error/Return Code D4004 (the list of Error

Codes) has been removed from this CSD and shall be published on the

Market Operator’s website. This list shall be updated by the Market

Operator in line with releases to the Central Systems or as required from

time to time. The Market Operator shall notify Trading Parties and the

Panel when updates have been made to the list of Error Codes.


4 Data Transactions

4.1 Overview

4.1.1 Data Transactions are defined using the following parameters:

Transaction Number

Uniquely identifies the Data Transaction. Each Transaction Number is of the form T<AAA>.<B> for standard Data Transactions, and TCORR<AAA>.<B> for Data Correction Transactions, where:

• <AAA> is a unique number for each Data

4.1.2 Appendix D provides a summary of all Data Transactions and related

notifications.

4.1.3 In addition to the contents of each Data Transaction as described in

Section 4.4, each Data Transaction shall be sent in a wrapper which

includes additional Data Items such as the Transaction Number, the

sending organisation, the receiving organisation and other necessary

information. The wrapper will differ depending on the interface used to

submit the Data Transaction, as described in CSD 0400 (Common

interface technical specifications), CSD 0401 (Transactional interface for

Trading Parties having a high volume of Data Transactions) and CSD 0402

(Transactional interface for Trading Parties having a low volume of Data

Transactions).

4.2 Data Correction Transactions

4.2.1 Data Correction Transactions may be submitted in accordance with CSD

0105 (Error Correction and Retrospective Amendments).

4.2.2 Data Correction Transactions all have the prefix TCORR to differentiate

them from standard Data Transactions with the prefix T.

4.2.3 Data Correction Transactions are in one of two forms:

(a) A Data Correction Transaction may be a modified version of a

standard Data Transaction to permit Data Correction. In this case,


the format of the Data Correction Transaction is similar to the

equivalent standard Data Transaction, with the addition of two

fields as follows:

A Appendix A –SPID format A.1 SPID Format

A.1.1 A SPID is composed of four (4) parts concatenated into a single, unique, thirteen (13) character string. Figure 1 below illustrates the component parts. The SPID Core is further divided into two (2) sub-parts.

(a) SPID Core This is comprised of two sub-parts:

(i) SPID Core Serial Part This is the serial number

generated upon adding a Supply Point to the Supply Point

Register and identifies a Supply Point without making a

distinction between Water or Sewerage Services – the SPID

Core is thus unique to each Eligible Premises. This serial

number is a nine (9) digit integer.

(ii) Core Check Code This check code enables error

detection for the SPID Core and must always be used. The

check code is a single character and may either be an

integer (0 – 9) or the letter “X”.

(b) Category This identifies the Service Category of the SPID

W for Water and S for Sewerage.

(c) Version This identifies the version of the SPID and will

always be “1”. The SPID version represents legacy

functionality which allowed Deregistered SPIDs to be

While this part of the SPID is still called the “version”, the

SPID

(d) Check code The check code enables error detection and is

an intrinsic part of the SPID. The check code must always

A.2 Check code algorithm

A.2.1 The same “modulo 11” check digit algorithm is used for both the Core check code and the SPID check code.

A.2.2 For the purposes of the check digit algorithm, the letter “W” is treated as if it were the integer 1, and the letter “S” is treated as if it were the integer 2.

A.2.3 If the algorithm produces the result ten (10), it shall be shown as the letter “X”. Conversely, if the letter “X” has to be encoded in the algorithm, it shall be treated as if it has the value ten (10).
