CODE OF ETHICS FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHERSPursuant to the provisions of paragraph (e), Article 11, ofR.A. No. 7836, otherwise knownas thePhilippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994 and paragraph(a), section 6, P.D. No. 223,as amended, the Boardfor Professional Teachers hereby adopt the Code of Ethics forProfessional Teachers.PreambleTeachers are duly licensed professionals who possesses dignity and reputation with high moralvalues as well as technical andprofessional competence in the practice of theirnoble profession,and they strictly adhere to, observe, andpractice this set of ethical and moral principles,standards, and values.Article I: Scope and LimitationsSection 1. The Philippine Constitution provides that all educationalinstitution shall offer qualityeducation for all competent teachers. Committed toits full realization, the provision of this Codeshall apply, therefore, to all teachers in schools in thePhilippines.Section 2. This Code covers all public and private school teachers inall educational institutionsat the preschool, primary, elementary, and secondary levels whetheracademic, vocational,special, technical, or non-formal. The term teachershall include industrial arts or vocationalteachers and all other persons performing supervisory and /or administrative functions in allschool at the aforesaid levels, whether onfull time or part-time basis.Article II: The Teacher and the StateSection 1. The schools are thenurseries of the future citizens of the state; eachteacher is atrustee of the cultural and educational heritageof the nation and isunder obligation to transmit tolearners such heritage as well as to elevate national morality, promote national pride, cultivatelove of country, instill allegiance to the constitution andfor all duly constituted authorities, andpromote obedience to the laws of the state.Section 2. Every teacher or school official shall actively helpcarry out the declared policies ofthe state, and shall take anoath to this effect.Section 3. In the interest of the State andof the Filipino people as much asof his own, everyteacher shall be physically, mentally and morally fit.Section 4. Every teacher shall possess and actualizea full commitment and devotion toduty.Section 5. A teacher shall not engage in the promotion of any political, religious, or otherpartisan interest, and shall not, directly or indirectly, solicit, require, collect, or receive anymoney or service or other valuablematerial from any person or entity for such purposes.Section 6. Every teacher shall vote andshall exercise all other constitutional rights andresponsibility.Section 7. A teacher shall not use his position or official authority or influence to coerce anyother person to follow any political course of action.
