The AC Coaching Supervision Training

Accreditation Scheme

The Association for Coaching (AC) Coaching Supervision Training Accreditation Scheme is

designed to further the AC’s purpose of championing standards of excellence in the

coaching professions. Its core features are:

Design Principles

Inclusivity

The AC welcomes Training Course Providers from different disciplines, backgrounds,

training and experience to submit Coaching Supervision training courses for accreditation.

The Scheme focuses on accrediting training courses that entail a blended learning

approach with a balance of practical and theoretical content

Rigorous standards

AC Coaching Supervision Training Accreditation offers reassurance to buyers with

regard to the level of knowledge, practical experience and application of coaching

supervision competencies, all benchmarked against best practice.

Developmental focus

AC Coaching Supervision Training Accreditation is designed for courses which provide an

in-depth teaching of appropriate theory combined with considerable practical

experience and supervision of that supervision experience, to ensure both personal and

professional development of the trainee coaching supervisors

Requirements

To apply for AC Coaching Supervision Training Accreditation the course(s) need to have

run and completed at least once with a minimum of six participants.

Participants on your AC Accredited Coaching Supervision Training should be awarded

certificates of successful completion, subject to them meeting your standards at

assessment. Should they choose to apply for AC Coaching Supervisor Accreditation (the

individual scheme)*, this certificate will evidence their Coaching Supervision Training and

forms part of their application.

Qualifying Criteria

Courses will need to meet or exceed the AC’s requirements for training hours, covering

theoretical learning, practical application, supervision and assessments to be eligible for

accreditation. Training courses will be assessed on the specific use of the AC’s Coaching

Supervision Competency Framework within the Coaching Supervision Training course

and how it is incorporated.

To applying for AC Coaching Supervision Training Accreditation, follow these steps:

1. Please read the Qualifying Criteria section above to check your course is eligible.

2. Read this Applicant Guide and the other supporting documentation which can be

downloaded from the AC website to assist you in understanding the requirements.

3. Use this Applicant Guide to help you complete the documentation, then submit

your application following the instructions on the AC website.

Requirements

To avoid confusion, we recommend you advise participants that they can apply for

Individual AC Coaching Supervision Accreditation once they have completed their training

with your organization and gained professional experience, CPD and further supervision.

Please direct them to the website for further information on the process and critieria.

Before You Apply

Please check that your training course meets all of the criteria for the scheme before

submitting your application.

Fees

On submission of your application, we request that you pay fees for the assessment and

the three year accreditation.

Assessment and Accreditation Fees will be reviewed on April 1st of each year. Please

Your Application

Please submit your application as follows:

1. Enter all information into the Application form and ensure all the elements

requested as part of the application form are included in the document, preferably a

PDF.

2. In addition to the completed Application form, please submit three Participant

References.

3. If you have any questions on the requirements, please contact

[email protected] before submitting your

application online.

Before You Submit

Please submit your application in full, carefully following the guidance set out to avoid

having your form returned for changes and resubmission. *In the event of this occurring a

resubmission fee is chargeable to cover the costs of administration.

Once you have submitted and paid for your application you will receive emailed

confirmation of receipt of both. Your application will move into the assessment process.

Please ensure documentation submitted in support of your application is authentic and

truthful. If there is any false information that has been provided, this may invalidate the

application and give cause to remove any accredited status awarded.

Assessment of Your Application

Your application will be assessed by AC Accreditation Assessors who abide by a Code of

Conduct which includes the confidential treatment of all information supplied by you.

Applications are assessed using the specified criteria and in conjunction with the AC

Coaching Supervision Competency Framework (available on the AC website).

The outcome of the assessment of your application could be one of the following:

• A pass

• A referral for resubmission

• Not passed

• The AC will endeavour to assess your application as quickly as possible, this will

take no longer than three months, though in most cases it will be sooner. All

feedback will be given in writing.

• Details of your application are confidential, known only to AC administration and

those AC Accreditation Assessors involved in the assessment of your application.

• Once assessed your application will be kept on file by the Accreditation Office for a

period of three years. You are advised to keep a copy of your application as this will

help you when applying for accreditation renewal after three years.

• Once your course is awarded AC Coaching Supervision Training Accreditation, you

will receive a certificate of Accreditation, the relevant AC Accredited Coaching

Supervision Training logo for marketing purposes and the appropriate recognition

on the AC website.

Maintaining and Renewing Your Accreditation

AC Coaching Supervision Training Accreditation is valid for a period of three years, and is

dependent upon your organization’s continued AC Membership.

As the purpose of AC Coaching Supervision Training Accreditation is to confirm that a

training course meets current best practice, it is subject to review.

For the purposes of continuous improvement and evaluation, and there will be a

requirement to renew accreditation at expiry.

Application Form.

2. Coaching Supervision Competencies and

Code of Ethics Used Within the Coaching

Supervision Training Course

In this section you are required to demonstrate when and how the AC Coaching

Supervision Competency framework and the Global Code of Ethics for Coaches, Mentors

and Supervisors are covered in the Coaching Supervision Training course.

What You Need to Do

Please provide details of which coaching supervision competencies and Code of Ethics

you have built your Training Course around and how you train to these within the course.

For all applications:

• Complete the table provided detailing which additional supervision competency

framework is used in the training course, if applicable

4. Coaching Supervision Training Course

Structure

In this section of the application you give specific information about the content and

running order of your Coaching Supervision Training Course.

What You Need to Do

Complete the table

• List all elements for your Coaching Supervision Training Course from induction

through to the end of the course

• Use your Coaching SupervisionTraining Course Outline to complete the table

clearly showing the breakdown of:

o Modules/Units - induction, ethical coaching supervision practice,

recommended reading, supervision etc.

o Method/Resources used – tutor-led presentation, group discussion, Code of

Ethics & Good Practice etc.

o Content of each Module/Unit

o Blended Learning – state whether it is theory, practice, reflective practice

and supervision, other (such as mandatory attendance at a related workshop

or talk, observation of a video, participation in a VOIP call)

o Time – how long is spent on this activity and whether it is:

▪ tutor-led

▪ self-study

▪ supervision practice (in addition to class-based practice)

o Assessment criteria – what the participant is required to do as a result of this

module and how it will be assessed.

Tips

• Provide as much information as you can about each of the elements of the training

• Ensure that the content is a blended learning experience covering theory, practice,

• Ensure that the total hours add up to the actual hours of the training course listed

in Section 3 of the application form.

• Avoid attaching a training course outline.

5. Coaching Supervision Approaches and

Models

In this section of the application you give specific information about the coaching

supervision and psychological approaches and models your Coaching Supervision

Training Course covers.

What You Need to Do

• Complete the table in the application form with all the coaching supervision and

psychological approaches and models you teach, not just the minimum of three

that you will cover in-depth within the course

• Do not use acronyms but write out approach or model in full. For example, rather

than ‘TA’ use ‘Transactional Analysis’

• Identify the method used to explain and use the approach or model

• Indicate whether it was covered in the training hours for:

o tutor-led sessions (either in person or an online class)

o self-study

o coaching supervision practice (in addition to class-based practice)

o other

coaching approaches and models

6. Lesson Plan Outcomes

In this section of the application you give specific information about the learning

outcomes for one particular lesson plan which focuses on a coaching supervision or

psychological approach or model in your Course.

What You Need to Do

Complete in full the table in this section.

• Select one coaching supervision or psychological approach or model that is taught

on the training course - for example the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision.

• Enter the unit or lesson title

• Refer to worked example in Appendix II to complete the following elements of the

table:

o Describe all of the learning outcomes required as a result of this learning

module, adding in more rows as required

o List the assessment criteria linking it to the learning outcomes

approach and model

• Avoid assuming that the AC Assessors have any prior knowledge of the coaching

supervision or psychological approaches and models covered in your course

What You Need to Do

• Refer to worked example in Appendix III to complete the following elements of the

table:

o Enter content of learning module

o Detail activity undertaken

o List materials used

o Detail time allocated for each element of the learning module

• Provide as much information as you can about each of the elements of the

coaching supervision or psychological approach and model used

• Avoid assuming that the AC Assessors have any prior knowledge of the coaching

supervision or psychological approaches and models covered in your course

8. Self-Study

In this section of the application you give specific information about the self-study

element of your training course.

What You Need to Do

• Complete the table detailing the type of all self-study undertaken by participants,

for example:

o Reading

o Research

o Written work, including the written assignments assessed as part of the

course

9. Coaching Supervision Practice

In this section of the application you give specific information about the practical

coaching supervision that the participants undertake both in, and outside of, the tutor-led

class (whether in person or online).

What You Need to Do

• Complete the in-class practice table specifying:

o Who observes the class-based coaching supervision practice sessions

o How many sessions are observed (a minimum of three are required)

• Complete the in addition to class-based practice table:

o Detail the guidance for coaching supervision practice that is given to course

participants

o Explain how the additional coaching supervision practice of a minimum of

15 hours is verified and include the supporting evidence that participants

are required to submit

10. Feedback, Reflective Work and Supervision

In this section of the application you give information about the feedback given to

participants, the reflective work (supervisor development) and supervision of coaching

supervision undertaken as part of the training course.

What You Need to Do

• Complete the table with all of the observations from tutors and peers, including

opportunities for feedback; with information on the reflective work undertaken

through journaling, learning and case logs and reflective group discussions.

• Complete the table with the details of the supervision of participants’ coaching

supervision though the duration of the course, including who conducts the

supervision.

• Detail:

o How many sessions, when, and by whom observation and feedback is given

o The guidance given to participants with regard to completing a reflective

journal

o The evidence that is required to demonstrate the participants have

undertaken comprehensive reflective work?

o How many reflective group discussions take place

o How many group and 1-1 supervision sessions take place, and of what

duration?

o Who is the Supervisor? E.g. tutor, external supervisor

Tips

• Ensure that there are a minimum of three observed coaching supervision

sessions

• Ensure that your course meets the requirements of a minimum or 6 hours of

supervision as part of the course

11. Written Assignments

In this section of the application you are required to detail what written assignments your

participants undertake as part of the Coaching Supervision Training Course.

• Give a brief description of all of the written work a participant is required to do.

12. Course Faculty

In this section you are required to give information about your course tutors, assessors,

supervisors and any other faculty members involved in delivering the Coaching

Supervision Training Course.

What You Need to Do

• Write c.200 words outlining the experience and expertise of each of the course tutors

to deliver the specified training course to the required standard. Please include their:

o name

o role(s) specifically relating to the training course (e.g. tutor, assessor, NLP

specialist etc.)

o relevant experience, qualifications and expertise

o details of memberships of, and accreditations with, any coaching and

supervisory body they have

o add additional rows as necessary

• Write c.100 words outlining the experience and qualifications of any course assessors

who are not course tutors. Please include their:

13. Assessment Methods

In this section of the application you are required to describe how you will assess your

Coaching Supervision Training Course participants in terms of their fitness to practise.

Assessment Style

• Give a description (approx. 500-750 words) of the assessment methods used to

determine fitness to practise. These methods may include:

o Formative – monitoring participants’ learning, providing feedback during

the face to face learning

o Summative – evaluating learning at the end of the training course to a

benchmark standard with reference to the AC Coaching Supervision

Competencies.

Tips

• Provide details of how participants’ knowledge and understanding of the all the

elements of the Coaching Supervision Training Course are assessed including:

o Tutor-led training hours (in person or online)

o Self-study hours

o Coaching supervision practice (in addition to class-based practice

undertaken by delegates)

o Observed/recorded coaching supervision practice

o In-class feedback, reflective work (coach development) and supervision

undertaken as part of the Coaching Supervision Training Course

o Written assignments, including a case study, coaching supervision

philosophy and at least one other reflective assignment

14. Course Evaluation

In this section provide details of all the evaluation methodologies you employ to evaluate

the effectiveness of the Coaching Supervision Training Course and further develop it.

Supervision Training Course. For example:

15. Participant References

This part of the application is designed to gauge the effectiveness of your training course

from a participant perspective.

What You Need to Do

• Ask three recent (completing within the last 18 months) participants to supply a

reference.

• Send him/her a Participant Reference Form, complete with your organization’s

name and the name of your Coaching Supervision Training Course. Reference forms

are available to download on the AC website.

• Ask your participant to e-mail the completed reference to you as a PDF.

• Submit the three references in the relevant place on the online application

NOTE: The AC reserves the right to contact referees to discuss their references.
