Element- A substance that contains only
one kind of atom.
![Page 3: Co2 power pt](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062514/55813628d8b42a68488b51e2/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Atom- The smallest unit of an element that retains the chemical
properties of that element.

Compound- A substance consisting of two or
more different elements chemically bonded together.

Force- A push or a pull
![Page 7: Co2 power pt](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062514/55813628d8b42a68488b51e2/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Newton’s third law of motion for every action (force) there is an equal and opposite reaction (force).

Forces acting on your C02 car.

Gravity- The force of attraction between objects of mass. Earth’s gravity pulls objects towards its surface.
![Page 10: Co2 power pt](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062514/55813628d8b42a68488b51e2/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Lift- The force that opposes gravity.
![Page 11: Co2 power pt](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062514/55813628d8b42a68488b51e2/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Thrust- The forward force generated by propulsion.
![Page 12: Co2 power pt](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062514/55813628d8b42a68488b51e2/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Drag- The force that resists the forward motion of a solid object in a fluid.
![Page 13: Co2 power pt](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062514/55813628d8b42a68488b51e2/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Friction- The property that objects have which makes them resist being moved across each other.
![Page 14: Co2 power pt](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062514/55813628d8b42a68488b51e2/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
3 kinds of friction…Sliding (kinectic) friction- produced when two surfaces slide across each other.Rolling Friction- resistance produced when a rolling body moves over a surface.Fluid Friction- The friction between a fluid (air in the case of CO2 cars) and an solid (the CO2 car).
![Page 15: Co2 power pt](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062514/55813628d8b42a68488b51e2/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Newton’s first law of motion states that an object at rest tends to stay at rest unless acted upon by an unbalanced force, and an object in motion tends to stay in motion going the same speed and direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

Aerodynamics- Is the study of forces that act on an object as it moves through a fluid.
![Page 18: Co2 power pt](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062514/55813628d8b42a68488b51e2/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Streamline- the flow of air moving around an object. The teardrop is the most aerodynamic and streamlined shape.
![Page 19: Co2 power pt](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062514/55813628d8b42a68488b51e2/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Eddies- a current of fluid or air running against the main current causing the swirling of air molecules.

Newton’s second law of motion which states that acceleration is produced when a net force acts on a mass. The greater the mass of the object being accelerated, the greater the force is needed to accelerate the object (F=MA).
