The Government replied on May 19,2000 to Mr.Talbot and Mr.McDowell that allimmediate recommendations would be implemented. Subsequently the Governmentissued a formal notice from the cabinet of the Prime Minister's Office mandating thecessation offoresttimberexploitation in the areas reported by the mission,the deline-ation of protected areas as recommended by the mission, establishment of an Ad HocCommittee to monitor and control forest exploitation, and approving annual jointmonitoring of the NT2 project area with international participation.
