Updates and FeedbackNetwork:Wider engagement feedback:

- Sue, Marcia and Beth visited the West Cippenham Residents Association – it was interesting but hard to keep the conversation on co-production!

- Marcia & Sally spoke at the Slough CVS Community Network, and have been invited back to talk again.

- Joycelyn and Marcia recently attended the Health and Social Care Partnership Board and found it very informative.

- Shahnaz shared her experiences of working with Solutions 4 Health. She was involved in the provider selection, and met with them to talk about how the service could work, including discussing possible names for the service. It is a service that supports people who are at risk of losing their home and who struggle to engage with other services.

- Critical friend feedback: This session produced a ‘Question Bank’ for members to refer to when we have visitors presenting to us at meetings. The session helped us to think about how to make sure we are asking questions that reflect the experiences of the wider community, not just focusing on our own agendas.

- Open Doors: this was an application submitted by Shari and Beth to facilitate a monthly open health & social care forum using the Open Doors premises on Slough High Street. Beth reported that we are still waiting for response. Note: following the meeting we received confirmation of a telephone interview, which Shahnaz and Beth are doing on Tuesday 12th November.

- Future meeting times: The group agreed that 2-4pm meeting times work best, on Tuesdays.

- Co-facilitator arrangements: facilitation skills was identified as a training need for some of the volunteers. Explored the idea of a rolling arrangement, so everyone takes a turn, with cover as necessary. Karen S volunteered to co-facilitate in January.

- Membership: we welcomed Martin (Service Lead Adult Social Care Operations) and Alex (Clinical Lead, Recovery Team, Slough CMHT) to the group. Following 3 volunteers stepping down, we discussed how / when new volunteers would be recruited. We agreed to leave it open and discuss if and when there is interest – and new volunteers would complete an application form and be interviewed by a panel of community representatives.

- Training: Sally asked the group about day 2 of co-production training available with Cat and Anna. The group agreed that we need more time to decide what we need, and it would be best to be specific to a project.

SBC:- Business case templates: Sally informed the group that whenever anyone in the

council begins a project, they have to complete a business case document. This document has been changed to ask specifically about community engagement, and if they are not doing any engagement, they need to explain why not. This is an important step to making sure residents have more opportunities to get involved and a move towards more co-production.

- Commissioning and Contracts Monitoring Board: Jane explained about this monthly meeting within the Commissioning and Transformation team. At this meeting they look at how well providers are performing, e.g. 86% of domiciliary care providers are rated as Good, with 1 requires improvement and 1 awaiting inspection. The team are working with providers to help them be ‘Brexit ready’.

Future projects are also discussed at the meetings. This includes a supported house projected for people with complex mental health issues. There have already been conversations with potential landlords. There is an opportunity for people to get involved – Alex is already involved, and Shahnaz and Karen E also showed an interest. There was a discussion about community representatives getting involved in these meetings, to ensure co-production is really from the very beginning of the project, as they could have beneficial input into these early discussions.

- Commissioning and Transformation team away day: Sally informed the group that Sally and Beth led a session on Co-production at the team away day. This has resulted in developing a way to ensure co-production becomes embedded in the work everyone does in the team.

- Carers Strategy refresh: Sally is leading the refresh of the Carers Strategy which is going to be co-produced. Network encouraged to get involved and spread the word.

- SBC runs TalkAbout sessions for council staff, to share information and learning. On 21st January there is a session with a focus on community engagement. Adult Social Care have been invited to speak for 5 minutes on co-production. The group were invited to get involved, and Alan suggested that the whole group should be invited to attend the session to facilitate some conversations with SBC staff about their experiences.

Community and voluntary sector contract recommissioning – unfortunately Ketan Ghandi didn’t make it to the meeting, so this will be on the January agenda.

Healthwatch Lay inspectors / Community visitors update - Colin PillHealthwatch Slough have arranged a visit in November to Langley Haven Care Home during which time we will be using the Co-production toolkit as the focus of the visit. We have provided training for our Enter and View team to ensure we deliver the project in a way that builds on our experience of this kind of work and ensures more consistency and robustness in practice. Training has included more detail on what to look for, how to record finding, safeguarding and debrief arrangements. Following the pilot, we will review the methodology and approach and revise and roll out the programme to other care homes in Slough in early 2020. Healthwatch Slough look forward to bringing their findings and experience of the toolkit back to Co-production at the earliest opportunity.

Healthwatch recommissioning – Ash HussainThere is an opportunity for a volunteer to get involved with the selection process for the new provider. The volunteer can’t be involved with the current Healthwatch. To get involved contact Ash on: [email protected] or 07889651222.

There was discussion about how the Co-production Network should have also been invited to the Market Engagement event – this invitation was circulated following the meeting.

Residents Board – Karen LewisThe Residents Board has recently relaunched. It is made up of Slough Borough Council housing tenants and lease holders. It holds the Council and Osbourne (the repair and maintenance provider) to account, and helps shapes the future of housing. There are similarities in the way the Residents Board and Co-production Board are working. We will continue to explore ways to work together and share opportunities. Karen invited members to attend a Residents Board meeting.
