PRESIDENT’S REPORT Happy Fall! I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you, our
members, for your continued patronage and support of our retail
co-operative. Thanks to your loyalty, your co-op is able to provide
back to you a general repayment of $218,414.72 from this year’s
equity allocation.
Being a member of a co-operative is so much more than earning
equity and receiving patronage dividend cheques. I’m continually
impressed by the engagement of our members. Thank you for
providing your voice at our recent informational meetings, Annual
General Meeting, and interaction with your elected board of
directors. The ideas we’ve received for a new name for our
amalgamated co-op have also been very helpful in shaping the
future of our organization.
In addition to monthly board meetings in Elm Creek, our co-op has
4 directors that are serving on the board of what will be the
amalgamated co-op (myself, Gayle Wolfram, Mark Boyachek and
Ron de Ruiter). On this board we are working on fine tuning
governance and policies for the new organization, a name for the
new co-op, and held a strategic planning meeting jointly with the
staff. Meanwhile, staff are working very hard at a lot of behind-
the-scenes processes and systems that are required to create a
smooth transition on December 1 and we are grateful for their
efforts. It has been a pleasure working with the Marquette board
and staff.
You may have noticed that construction is underway for a new
shed on the north side of our lot. This is a much-needed multi-
function building that will primarily serve as asset protection as
our fuel trucks are currently stored outdoors. It will also free up
space in our warehouse by storing oil products. The addition of
this building will also aid in storing agricultural products to bring
more variety to our Agro division in Elm Creek. Talk to Helena if
you are interested in booking seed this fall!
I will be attending the Federated Co-operatives Limited Fall
conference in November on behalf of our co-op. If you have any
questions that you’d like me to bring forward to our #1 supplier,
please feel free to reach out to me by phone or e-mail

A LITTLE HISTORY
Elm Creek Co-op has
been serving
Members since 1928.
The Original
Purpose of Elm Creek
Co-op was …..
“ To provide the
residents of Elm Creek
and the Surrounding
area with Goods and
Services for their
consumption and use
on a
Co-operative basis”

ELM CREEK CO-OPERATIVE
We once again have had
some Staff changes. This
is a constant and has its
pro’s and con’s. Employ-
ees often leave to follow a
new career path; to attend
school, or just to change
the kind of work they do.
This is a good thing! I be-
lieve you should always be
passionate about what you
choose to do in life. With
each new employee there
are new opportunities and
ideas, as well as the pas-
sion to achieve the goals
of the organization.
Co-op Week is fast ap-
proaching and we will once
again have a fun filled
week with deals, Garage
sales, Demo Days and our,
always popular, 5 cents off
at the pumps. We will have
Pork-on-a-bun this year with
the proceeds from the Silver
collection going to the Grad
Class.
We were also excited to do-
nate the funds from Fuel
Good Day (Sept 17th) to the
4H Community Club.
You may have noticed we
have some construction
going on, it will be a new
warehouse to house oil,
seed and for asset protec-
tion of our fleet. The old
warehouse across the street
will still house feed and will
make room for our ever ex-
panding Hardware Dept.
In closing, I would like to
thank you, our loyal Mem-
bers and Customers, for
your continued support.
Dave Henderson, G.M.
MANAGER’S REPORT
What a dry year we have
had My grass has finally
started to grow and I think
I have cut it more in Au-
gust and September than I
did all summer! The lack of
rain has also hurt our Pow-
er Equipment sales which
are down about 35% from
last year. All other Hard-
ware commodities are
holding their own however.
Petroleum has taken the
lead. Litres are up by 5%
overall, though dollar sales
are down due to price de-
flation of about 9%. Oil,
Petroleum Equipment
Sales are up.
Grocery sales are just
above last year with Liquor
and Tobacco down slightly.
It was exciting that our
Amalgamation vote was
97% in favour and we are
in the process of looking
for a new name . We have
had member, staff & board
input and feel we are get-
ting close to a decision.
Helena Borst will be our Ag
Sales Supervisor for our
area she will be working
with Curtis Tielmann (the
Agronomist from Starbuck)
and Pat Chanel (Ag Manag-
er at Marquette).
Mission Statement
“To provide our members with quality
products and services in an environmentally
responsible way, promoting sustainable
community development.”
