A pair of skilled hands turns the handles of acustom-made bottom-bracket facing tool. Nearby, thesound of a single strap of emery cloth polishing andgently shaping a brazed joint can be heard. To the left, the slow pulsing flash of a carefully controlled TIGwelder. A few steps away, mill and lathe operatorsexecute the precise cuts that make our custom-drawnbutted tubing into the integral parts of a Co-Motionbicycle frame. Just beyond, skilled artisans carefullytake turns preparing each frame for paint, or paintingin multiple stages in our world-class downdraft booth.

Craftsmanship—it’s a work ethic and a philosophythat’s often touted but seldom adhered to elsewhere.Producing the finest bicycles in the world isn’t aboutautomation. We believe craftsmanship defines thepersonal connection between our bicycles and

CO-MOTION CRAFTSMANSHIP

ourselves. Our commitment to the hard work and tothe details of making better bicycles is evident notonly in our bicycles, but in the people who work hereas well. A visit to Co-Motion Cycles illustrates ouropen and honest style. We take pride in what we dobecause we know we’re doing it right.

You can see craftsmanship at work right hereevery day. From the way Bob Westman (1) brazes thedropouts on a new frame, to the finesse of AndrewLillebridge’s (2) TIG welding torch. The pride is evidentin the care we take in each step of every bicycles’sconstruction. Our paint technicians, Eric Dungey (3)and Mick Coleman (4) take a little extra time to do aflawless job that is unsurpassed in the industry. It takesmore time to executive a perfectly mitered tube forevery intersection on a Co-Motion frame, and Billy

Truelove (5) and Matt Goodban (6) demonstrateobvious dedication to that goal. When it comes towielding a brazing torch, Ben Renich’s (7) steady handis beyond reproach.

We’re not a bunch of faceless corporate clock-punchers—we ride to work, ride for fun, and we ridefor competition. Here are Dan Vrijmoet, Dwan Shepardand Alan Cline (8) coming in on their morningcommute. Alan Cline (9), sales manager/problemsolver/storyteller, pauses on the sales floor. DanVrijmoet (10), co-owner and master machinist, makesa fixture to manufacture a time trial bike. Pat Waters(11) does the assembly on a bike, Elayne Goodban (12)sells bikes and works with the shop on scheduling, andDick Stanton (13) makes keeping the numbersaccurate seem easy.

Practical innovationAt Co-Motion Cycles, turning ideas into bicycles is more thanjust giving someone an order. The bicycles in this catalog are areflection of the very practical way we do things. In fact, everyone of our bicycles has evolved from our past experience—from the bicycles we ride ourselves to those we build for ourcustomers. We began like many other framebuilders—buildingstrictly custom bicycles. As time went on, we developed stockmodels based on what our customers were ordering. Wetracked our fitting data, and paid attention when customersasked to change an angle here or there, or to accommodatea new component or innovation. Now, more than ever, weuse customer input to influence how we’ll continue to pushthe evolution of the bicycle.

We are a creative lot, and our bicycles have been noticed inpublications worldwide since we founded our company in1988. Check the archives on our website for articles aboutCo-Motion published over that last 17 years. You’ll find areputation for innovation early on that has only grown as

we’ve matured. As a result of our efforts, Co-Motion Cycleshas emerged to become the standard by which all othertandem brands are judged. And we’re working just as hardto build the same kind of reputation for our single bikes.

The Co-Motion tandem differenceAlthough we’ve long enjoyed a reputation for buildingtandems that simply handle better, our competitors havetried to label our bikes as “twitchy” or difficult to handle. Not so. Precision handling makes our tandems safer andeasier to control. A slower handling bike might lull youinto a false sense of security, but when it comes toavoiding obstacles, or executing a perfect mountaindescent, no tandem will respond like a Co-Motion.Experienced cyclists will notice that they don’t have torelearn bike handling, while new cyclists find that ridinga Co-Motion tandem is easier than they ever imagined.

Is your Co-Motion tandem psychic?Your Co-Motion tandem always seems to know exactly whereyou want to go because our handling geometry and fork

design doesn’t require over-steering or overcompensation. We’ve optimized the road feel with our specially designed andhand-built tandem fork, which gives excellent fore-aft passivesuspension while providing superb lateral rigidity.

Our Co-Motion/WoundUp carbon tandem fork, jointlydesigned and built by WoundUp Composites, enhances theride for performance-minded cyclists. But better handling isn’tjust a formula. The entire frame, the tubing it’s constructedwith, the way you fit into the bike, and all its componentswork in harmony to make a Co-Motion handle better.

Relax. You’re in control.Better control means you can relax and enjoy the ride.Confidence in your bicycle will make you a better cyclist, whether you’re a captain or stoker. When you know that yourtandem will do exactly what you ask, you’ll be able to relaxyour upper body, let your spine flex and respond as you ride, and loosen your grip on the handlebars. Because you’llexpend less energy on control, you’ll have more to invest inpedaling. It’s no wonder a Co-Motion feels easier to ride.

TubingThe tubing that your tandem is constructed from plays a hugepart in the ride of the bike. Co-Motion tandem tubing is continuallyevolving to deliver a comfortable ride while possessing incrediblelateral rigidity. Every tube, from the tapered S-bend chainstays tothe double-butted downtube, is thoughtfully profiled for optimumtandem applications. Our continuous-length top and lateral tubesare butted at each intersection—at both ends as well as in the centersection, an expensive and complex zonal-butting process.

We have continued to make tubing improvements for our 2005tandems. Our Speedster, Mocha, Supremo and Cappuccino modelsuse our improved tandem tubeset made from completely redesignedzonally-butted Cro-Moly tubing. Air-hardened tubing has consider-ably higher tensile strength and fatigue life, resulting in a lighterweight, stronger frame.

For our Co-Pilot Option S+S Coupler equipped bikes, we haveupdated the profile of the tubes to better support the installation ofcouplings. No other company has gone to the extremes we have todesign the bicycle around the S+S Coupler to improve travel-ability.All of our tube designs are exclusive to Co-Motion and unavailableto other manufacturers.

Our Roadster, Robustaand custom aluminumtandems are made fromselect Easton 7005 tandemtubing. Easton has earneda reputation as the world’spremier supplier ofadvanced technologyaluminum bicycle tubing, and their tandem tubing isunbeatable. To create abetter riding and moreprecisely constructedaluminum tandem, we usecontinuous large-diametertop and lateral tubes, rather than bulged or two-piece tubes. Our Easton7005 tandem tubeset alsofeatures zonally-butted topand lateral tubes and double-butted profiles designed specificallyfor tandems, including our tandem-only tapered stays.

WheelsSymmetrically constructedwheels assure a lifetime ofsolid performance. Our145mm rear axle spacing isthe standard of the tandemindustry, allowing plenty ofroom for 9- or 10-speedwide-range cassettes, excellent chainline, andhub-mounted brakes.

Contoured StaysFor improved tire andheel clearance, ourcustom seatstays andchainstays are gracefullycurved (at left).

CO-MOTION TANDEM FEATURESFinish WorkNothing compares with a Co-Motion in the finishquality department. Perfect metalwork, precisemachining, and impeccable detailing are expectedon a Co-Motion bicycle, and we deliver. Ask anyCo-Motion owner, or better yet, take a close look atthe finer details of one of our bicycles for yourself.

Hub-MountedBrake OptionsDisk brakes have come a longway in recent years, and we’vefound the Avid mechanical disk(above left) to be an extremelyreliable and outstandinglypowerful option as analternative to standard rimbrakes. Many people prefer adisk brake because the brake’sfriction will not overheat rims inextreme conditions. When youselect the disk brake option,we’ll also include the standardmounts for the brake(s) yourmodel normally includes.

The Arai drum brake (aboveright) is the only brake werecommend as a supplementaldrag brake. An Arai drum brakecan be fitted in addition to thestandard rim brakes, and is anexcellent choice for tandemtouring, heavier couples, ormountainous terrain. As a thirdbrake, the Arai drum allowsexcellent braking using therim brakes, and good heatdissipation and speed controlfor long, difficult descents. TheArai drum brake is part of ourtouring package, or it can beordered separately.

Beware of misleading informa-tion about butted tubing. Sometandem makers claim to be theonly ones using butted tubing. If you count the number ofwall-thickness zones, ourtandem top and lateral tubeswould be considered quint-butted. Interestingly, our tubeprofiles for this design are alsoasymmetrical, since the stokerand captain compartments arequite different. We use theterm zonally-butted becauseit clearly defines the intentionof bicycle tube design, which isto reinforce the tubing at eachtube intersection, whilelightening the less-stressedsections in between andimproving the ride qualityof the bicycle.

Better ForksA key element to making Co-Motion tandemshandle better is our fork. We re-engineered thetandem fork from the ground up. Our exclusivesteerer tube makes a superb foundation for ourcustom drawn tandem fork blades.

Our exclusive steerer tube (above left) is CNC-machined from a single piece of Cro-Moly tubing. For unsurpassed strength and precision, the steerertapers to a larger bearing race area, and increasesdiameter again at the fork blade attachment (aboveright). It’s just one reason why Co-Motion forks arethe choice of many other tandem builders.

The most awesome handling tandems cannot getby with generic mountain-bike fork blades, soCo-Motion has developed a fork blade specificallyfor tandem use. Shaped for excellent roadcompliance with ideal lateral rigidity, these largediameter tandem blades have tapering wallthickness from top to bottom. They’re shapedperfectly for building a road tandem fork that’ssuper strong, durable, and good looking to boot.

For information on our Co-Motion/WoundUp carbonfiber tandem fork, please see page 30.

Machined Head TubeLightweight, high strength, and good looks arethe priority here. We start with a thick walledtube section and machine away everything thatdoesn’t look like a Co-Motion tandem headtube. The result is extremely smooth, lightweight and ready to anchor the majortubes of the tandem frame.

Quick Fitting ChangesThis threadless front stem system provides a morerigid connection between handlebar stem andframe, with fewer parts overall. You can easily raiseor lower handlebar height for ideal fitting withstackable spacers and reversible stem angle. Theforged aluminum stems allow quick and easyremoval of handlebars, especially convenient on ourtravel tandems.

Stoker StemOur lightweight standardaluminum adjustable stem allowsfor about 2.5cm of adjustability(above, top).

Our optional max-adjust stokerstem (above, bottom) providesmore adjustment than any othertype with a full 18cm of range.

Fillet BrazingBeautifully executed craftsmanship. We havemade a name for ourselves as some of theindustry’s finest craftspeople with our glass-smooth fillet brazing. If you would like to add theelegance of fine fillet brazing to your Co-Motion,we now offer this option on any of our Cro-Molyand air-hardening steel models.

PaintCo-Motion is known for exceptionallybeautiful paintwork. Our certified painttechnicians complete a multi-stage, catalyzedprocess on each frame for a tough, longlasting finish. For a personalized look, you canchoose from our paint colors on page 21, orfrom infinite alternative finish options.

Versatility is by far the biggest reasonto consider making the Mocha yourall purpose recreational vehicle. Thesmaller diameter of the rims makes 26"wheels amazingly strong, and the widearray of available tires makes them veryappealing. You can ride on tires rangingfrom 1" to 2.2" wide, with virtually notread or aggressive trail-grabbing lugs. The Mocha is for road-riding as well asoff-road adventures—you choose. Thedegree of specialization is flexible. You can fit the Mocha with uprighthandlebars with mountain bike controlsor use drop bars with road-style levers.

If you’re the kind of people who useyour single mountain bikes for all kindsof riding, you’ll love the Mocha. It’s gotthe knockabout, user-friendly attitudeand fitting advantages of a mountainbike, too. An extra-low top tubeprovides roomy stand-over clearancefor smaller riders, and our wide varietyof stems makes it easy to introduceyour curious friends to the joy oftandeming. The Mocha’s geometrycompliments the handling theory thatis Co-Motion’s trademark: It respondsto rider input without flinching orhesitation, giving you extra confidenceto push yourselves just a little harder, and have a lot more fun!

For an extra leg up on our competi-tion, we build the Mocha with ourexclusive Co-Motion designed zonally-butted tandem tubing. Specialprocessing makes this air-hardeningsteel tubing harden after welding, for an amazing combination of lowweight and unmatched reliability. The Mocha has everything you need totake it touring this weekend and timetrialing next. Is this the do-everythingtandem you’ve dreamed of? You’llknow when you try it.

SPEEDSTER CO-P ILOT

When you ride a Speedster, you’ll experienceCo-Motion’s quantifiably better control thatother tandems simply lack. TheSpeedster steers nimbly and quickly, but betterstill; the precision of handling Co-Motiontandems are famous for equates to bettersafety as well. This tandem is remarkablylightweight and fun to take up long climbs, yet rock solid and stable on winding descents.

Co-Motion’s unmatched ride quality is thefoundation of our tandem reputation, andwe believe in packaging it with beautifulworkmanship and finish. No one wants toinvest in a machine as well developed as theSpeedster without reaping the aestheticrewards that Co-Motion owners expect.Super precise TIG welded joints, impeccablefinish details, and show-quality custom paintare all yours to enjoy even when you don’thave the time to take a ride.

The Speedster’s frame is constructed withour exclusive Reynolds air-hardening steeltandem tube package, a Cro-Moly steelunequaled by any steel alloy used by othertandem manufacturers. As on all Co-Motionmodels, one-piece top and lateral tubeskeep the frame straight and strong with nointerruptions at the center joints. Thesezonally-butted tubes, made to our stringentspecifications, produce a lighter tandemframeset than any other tubing. The result isthat the Speedster delivers a ride that iscrisp and comfortable at the same time.

A roomy stoker compartment, simple sizingsystem, and numerous stem selections forcaptain and stoker make a great fittingtandem a reality for just about any team. The Speedster’s high level of componentspecifications will leave you completelysatisfied that you own one of the besttandems the world has to offer. CAPPUCCINO

CAPPUCCINO CO-P ILOT

Cappuccino in Bright Silver Metallic to Light Blue Metallic fade

Cappuccino Co-Pilot in Pewter Gray Metallic

The Cappuccino has earned a reputation asthe ultimate tandem for extended rides, andsome stokers wouldn’t ride a mile on anothertandem! The Cappuccino’s Softride™ beamdelivers active suspension, absorbing vibrationand unexpected jolts far better than thelimited action of a suspension seatpost. The difference is amazing.

A smoother ride for the stoker means thecaptain is happier, too. With the stoker atease, those awkward body adjustments toget comfortable just aren’t needed—a bigplus for the captain. In fact, many teamsnotice a striking increase in their averagespeed, the result of effort saved not havingto react to road terrain. Helping you toshare your time enjoying the ride is whatthe Cappuccino is all about.

The Cappuccino’s compact rear frame sectionmakes it more laterally rigid, and due to thebeam’s suspension, you’ll benefit from thatextra stiffness without penalty. You’ll soonlearn this tandem gives up nothing inperformance, carving turns and climbing hillswith the renowned Co-Motion attitude.

The Cappuccino’s frame integrates thebeam’s rear mount in line with the top tubeat an Apex™. Pioneered by Co-Motion forthe Cappuccino, the Apex design distributesthe beam’s compression loads away fromthe mount, for zero “beam sway” andgreater strength than other Softride-equipped tandems.

When we introduced the Cappuccino, wespeculated that it would appeal mostlyto new cyclists. In the ensuing years, theCappuccino has become well loved byeveryone from Race Across AMerica winnersto casual Sunday riders. Whether you’reshopping for your first or last tandem, theCappuccino deserves a serious test ride. We’re betting you’ll love it, too.

SUPREMO

SUPREMO CO-P ILOT

A hundred years ago, tandems were for menin knickers and women in bloomers, carryingparasols. A tandem was for a leisurely jauntto the ice cream parlor or a quiet picnic.Perspiration and physical exertion were seenas contrary to civilized living. Sometimes, change is good.

The Supremo represents a departure fromtraditional thinking about tandems. Our goalwas to create the lightest, best performingsteel-framed tandem ever produced. Takingadvantage of our highly regarded geometryand advanced Co-Motion designed steeltandem tubing, the Supremo naturally has ahead start on every other contender. We’vebeen helping our customers make intelligentchoices for turning their all-purpose tandemsinto dedicated road machines for many years. To make the Supremo complete, all weneeded was to apply our experience.

We put our knowledge to work to developthe first carbon fork designed specifically fortandems with WoundUp Composites.Equipped with this new super-light WoundUp/Co-Motion carbon tandem fork theSupremo raises the bar on tandem handlingperformance. The Supremo’s Rolf PrimaVigor wheels and FSA SL-K Carbon Mega Exotandem crankset make accelerating nearlyeffortless. Since safety and longevity are atop priority here, we have extensively testedthese new components for hard tandemduty. Combining these with an air-hardenedsteel chassis, the Supremo isn’t just a lightand fast tandem; it’s an incredibly stout littletwo-seater rocketship.

The Supremo begs to be pushed hard. Theride is solid, smooth, fast, and seductivelyeasy. Of course, you could take this tandemfor an ice cream run, but we’re bettingyour joy rides will concentrate more on thejourney than the destination. Welcome tothe modern era.

ROBUSTA

Robusta looking fast in HOK Tangelo Pearl paint

If you’re looking at Co-Motion racingtandems, you’re looking for more thananother cookie-cutter production tandem. You’re seeking minimal weight, practicalapplication of the best modern materials, and component selections that won’t forceyou to make expensive upgrades later. Forthose who desire the ultimate in a purpose-built speed demon tandem, we’ve createdthe Co-Motion Robusta.

With its unbelievably light and rigid zonally-butted Easton 7005 aluminum frame, theRobusta is the embodiment of a true racingtandem. Void of touring accoutrements andoutfitted with dual pivot brakes, or our reardisk option, fast riding and optimizedhandling were our primary design objectivesfor the Robusta. Our proven carbon tandemfork, developed by Co-Motion Cycles inconjunction with WoundUp Compositeshelps to achieve this goal, with reducedweight, improved vibration damping, andsuperb handling. The Robusta’s super-light,incredibly strong Rolf Prima Vigor Tandemwheels, wrapped with Michelin Pro Racetires are built for speed and accelerationfirst and foremost. FSA SL-K CarbonMega Exo tandem cranks provideadditional performance and savecritical rotational mass.

The Robusta is designed for ridinghard. Sprinting, climbing out of thesaddle, and fierce, fast descents areall in a day’s work for this machine.Few would expect this kind ofpracticality from a tandem bicyclethat weighs 29 lbs. right out of thebox, but the Robusta respondseagerly and inspires you to domore. Other tandems may seemmore exotic, but they cannot matchthe incredible combination of lightweight and performance the Robusta offers.Experience for yourself how the Robusta willbring out the best from your team, andmake the best of teams unbeatable.

CO-MOTION TANDEM S IZ ING

• Co-Motion tandem sizing is designed fora wide spectrum of fitting options, and astronger, lighter and more graceful frame.

• It’s best to put the taller rider up front in thecaptain’s position, while the smaller rider isthe best choice for the rear (stoker) position.

• Select the tandem size that best fits thecaptain, and then consider the stoker’s fit.Stokers don’t need stand-over clearanceto achieve a comfortable position. Inseamrange for stokers on Softride™ beamtandems is less than on standard frames.

• Notice that each of you may fit more thanone size. We suggest looking very carefullyat one of the most overlooked aspects ofbicycle fit:

• Make sure the combination of the toptube length + stem matches your needs. To fine-tune your fit, we have nine choicesof front stems and two adjustable stokerstem choices. If you’re not sure about yourpositioning, you may use our 13-pointfitting guide and request assistance.

• Our PeriScope tandems change manythings we’ve come to accept about sizing. No matter what kind of fitting problemsyou may have had with other tandems,a PeriScope will very likely fit you to a “T.”

• Suspension seatposts: Deduct 2.5" (64mm)from the low end of the inseam range toallow room for the RockShox seatpost.Other brands may require more room.

1. INSEAM

Measure with shoes off. Stand squarely against a wall andraise a straightedge—a clipboard, carpenter’s square, ruleror other device—high against your crotch. Measure fromthe floor to the top of the straightedge.NOTE: This measurement is NOT the same as a trouserinseam measurement.

2. THIGH

Stand with your back squarely against a wall, and raise oneknee until your thigh is parallel to the floor. We’re lookingfor the head of the femur, which is just a few inches belowthe top of your pelvis. The head of the femur is a hardprotrusion very close to the flesh, but easier to locate onmen than women. Measure from the center of your hip/femur joint to the center of your knee. The next measure-ment (3) uses the same point.

3. BACK

Measure from the center of your hip/femur joint to thecenter of your shoulder joint. Stand up straight!

4. SHOE SIZE

5. WINGSPAN

Standing squarely against a wall, spread your arms straightout with your palms facing outward. Measure from thecenters of your palms (not your fingertips).

Please Note: Most airlines stipulate a limit of 62 linear inches for “checkable” luggage. Linear dimensions are the sum of the luggage’slength, width, and height. The luggage we offer for our Co-Pilot bicycles is 62 linear inches or less.

Many other brands of travel bicycles and cases that are now being marketed as airline checkable actually exceed this 62 linear inch luggagelimitation. Larger luggage is subject to surcharges and possible rerouting due to luggage compartment limitations on some aircraft.

The Hard Case is made from toughPVC plastic to provide ideal protectionfor your bicycle. The lid’s interlocking lipand continuous hinge ensure that thecontents stay inside. Steel latches and apadlock hasp add to security while thePullman wheels and a pop-up handlemake navigation to the TSA or luggagecounter effortless.(26"x26"x10"= 62 linear inches)

Our Backpack Case offers great versatility.Constructed of rugged Cordura nylon, it isinternally supported with ABS panels thatVelcro into its perimeter. Carry your bike onyour back or grab the tote handle, and use itcarry other items once the bike is removed. When empty, the backpack case collapses intoan easy-to-store package.(26"x26"x10"= 62 linear inches when full, approx. 28"x10"x3" when collapsed for storage)

The Lightweight Case, madeof fully-zippered Cordura nylon, though not as protective, is aninexpensive supplement for carryingwheels, shoes, and clothing, whileyour frame travels in a Hard Caseor Backpack Case.(26"x 26"x 8"= 60 linear inches)

Introduced in 1993, the S+S Machine Bicycle Torque Couplingforever changed the image of travel bikes, making odd-lookingfolding bikes with non-standard parts obsolete. With the S+SCoupling, a true high performance bicycle can be separated andpacked for travel quickly and easily in airline-checkable luggage. Ourexpert integration of the S+S Couplings will make you forget thatthe couplings are there, until it’s time to pack up your bike and go!

In 1994, we launched the Co-Motion Co-Pilot Project, becoming the first bicycle company in the world to offer bicycleswith S+S Couplings as a standard feature. Since then, we haveexpanded the Co-Pilot Project by making S+S Couplings availableon any Cro-Moly steel Co-Motion tandem or single. Just say,“Co-Pilot” and we’ll make your Co-Motion into a world-classtravel bike. As the leading maker of S+S Coupling equippedbicycles, Co-Motion Cycles has the expertise to ensure that yourtravel bike is without equal.

A close look at the elegant S+S Machine Bicycle Torque Couplingreveals the engineering that allows the system to work soperfectly. Interlocking tapered teeth are drawn together by athreaded lockring. Incredibly, a well-made BTC-equipped bicycleframe is measurably stronger than an identical frame withoutcouplings. We silver braze the S+S Couplings into our speciallydesigned Co-Pilot Project tubing before hand-building yourbicycle frame.

Because we know you expect the best, Co-Motion Cycles usesonly hardened 17-4 stainless steel S+S Couplings. Many buildersuse weld-on couplings made from lower-grade stainless or evennon-stainless material to reduce cost and speed up bicycleproduction. Hardened 17-4 stainless S+S Couplings assure alifetime of flawless and corrosion-free operation. We know thatonce you own a Co-Pilot, you’ll want to keep it forever.

CO-MOTION CO-P ILOT CONCEPT

A simple hook spanner, included with yourCo-Pilot, is all that is required to loosen orfasten the threaded BTC nut.

All Co-Motion Co-Pilot framesets includequick-release cable splitters to facilitatefast assembly and disassembly. Splittersinstall on both derailleur cables and therear brake cable.

Add the Co-Pilot option to your Co-Motion single

Co-Motion blazed a new trail for travel tandemswith a brilliant Six-Coupling system. Since our Co-Pilottandem frames separate into three sections, assemblyand disassembly is intelligently simplified. There’s noway to assemble out of sequence, no need to removethe fork, and there are no separate tubes to lose. Plus,we strategically locate our couplings for easy accesswithout knuckle-bashing interference from thechainrings. Our competitors simply overlook thesedetails that make your packing job easier.

No tandem maker is more thorough than Co-Motionwhen it comes to engineering the location of thecouplings for optimum frame strength. Each couplingis fully supported where it is integrated into the butted

Packing a genuine Co-Pilottandem takes less time than little-wheeled folding tandems. Ourthree-section design and easy-access couplers keep your packingjob simple. Two cases recom-mended for worry-free travel.

Packing your Co-Motion travelbike is simple, and you don’t haveto be a mechanical ace to do itright. In fact, the only unusualpart on our travel bikes is theS+S BTC. Cordura nylon paddedsleeves with a Velcro backingprotect your frame inside its case.

section of our exclusive zonally-butted Co-Pilot Projecttandem tubing. Our large diameter bottom tube is ovalat both ends and round where it joins just one largeS+S Coupling.

This design provides the known structural benefit of asingle oversized tube as well as lighter weight and thelogical simplicity of handling fewer parts. And yes, theround S+S Coupling is superior to the “oval coupler”offered elsewhere.

The Co-Pilot option will be a pleasant surprise on anyCo-Motion tandem you choose. The performance is soimpressive; you may end up sidelining the tandemyou’re riding now.

Add the Co-Pilot option to your Co-Motion tandem

Naturally, the best reason to own a Co-Pilot is that younever have to leave your passion for cycling behind whenyou travel. Your Co-Pilot checks on as regular luggage, saving you money and hassles each time you travel. Bestof all, you’ll maintain your fitness while the world becomesyour cycling playground.

Each Co-Pilot single or tandem includes a complete color-illustrated instruction booklet and an instructional CD youcan play on your computer or DVD player. See our Co-Pilotpacking slideshows at www.co-motion.com

RISTRETTO

Ristretto in Custom Baby Blue Pearl with HOK Lake Violet Pearl panels14.9 lbs. with Reynolds Ouzo Pro Lite fork, Reynolds Stratus DV-UL wheels, and Shimano 10-speed DuraAce components

Road racing looks different today than it did 20years ago. Where classic steel steeds once ruledthe peloton, undersized frames with unfamiliarnames and oversized tubes now dominate.Sentimental riders may mourn the retreat oftraditional lugged steel bicycles, but there’s agood reason for the change. While steel tubingcontinues to develop, alternative materials haveproven their value many times over. Titanium onceseemed to be the next revolution, but the provenconqueror is unquestionably aluminum.

Co-Motion has become known for makingbicycles with strong identity and a solid senseof purpose. We don’t make bicycles that mimicthose of our competitors. Instead, we look ateach bike as an answer to a need, and fill theniches where we find them. Oddly enough,well-crafted, handmade aluminum bicycles areextremely rare. The vast majority of aluminumroad bikes are made in enormous quantities ingiant production facilities. It’s hardly the kind ofplace you might imagine your personal machinewould be lovingly crafted. We’re offering analternative: A frame that offers the best inaluminum technology, incredibly lightweight andbuilt with the kind of individual attention anddesign that only a small American shop can offer.

The Ristretto exemplifies what a road bike wasalways meant to be. Size-specific geometry givesperformance equity whether you fit best on a62cm or 50cm frame. We individuallyselect Easton 7005 Ultralite tubes foreach specific size to create the beststrength-to-weight advantage. TheRistretto‘s geometry focuses ourstrength; creating a balancedposition for the rider to enhanceour renowned handling character.

If you’ve longed for hand-builtquality, with the rigidity and lowweight only a modern aluminumframe can provide; the Co-MotionRistretto is your bike.

When we started Co-Motion Cycles in 1988, we gave a lot of thought to the name and purpose of our company.Co-Motion can mean a lot of things, but what our name means to us is the unique relationship between peopleand their bicycles: Our bicycles. We want to make this bond between you and your machine stronger. By designingand building bicycles of substance, we’re working hard to help you develop that spirit of teamwork whether yourCo-Motion is a tandem, road bike, travel or touring bike, or a custom Co-Motion built just for you.

In November 2000 we moved into this beautiful new building designed specifically for the productionof handmade bicycles. If you ever find yourself in our area, just give us a call and stop by the facility. We’d love to show you why we think this is the best frame building shop in the country.
