C&O Canal Trail Ride Information Sheet Cost: $20 Departure: Brandt Student Center Parking Lot 9:00 AM Estimated Return: Brandt Student Center Parking Lot 6:00 PM Day 1: Meet students at the Brandt Student Center Parking Lot at 9:00 AM. Load up and hit the road to the trailhead about forty five minutes away. After biking instructions and a through safety check the group will pedal about 9 miles into the town of Harpers Ferry. The group will have some time to explore the town and grab lunch before biking the 9 miles back to the van. Once the bikes are loaded we will hit the road to SU, arriving no later than 6:00 pm. Weather: Weather at Harper’s Ferry National Recreation Area and along the Shenandoah River in the fall can reach temperatures as high as the 70’s and as low as the 40’s. Rain and severe thunderstorms are a possibility. Please come prepared for the weather. Your trip leaders will update you with any weather-related concerns. Food: Please bring money for lunch and souvenirs in Harpers Ferry, your own snacks, and a water bottle. Risks/ Hazards/ Safety Hazards associated with an outdoor trip are heat/cold illnesses, dehydration, human error, and poor decisions. Trip members must make a conscious effort to be safe. Our leaders are trained to administer first aid in an outdoor environment; however, while they may be able to treat some injuries, they cannot always prevent them. Hygiene & Comfort There will be bathrooms in town and at our trail heads before and after the bike ride. While we are on trail you have nature at your disposal. If you have concerns about using the restroom on your trip, please contact your trip leaders directly. ***The ability to ride and balance on bike for extended periods of time is required. Due to time constraints we cannot teach anyone how to ride a bike on this trip. If you are interested in learning how to ride a bike please contact us at the information below for more information.
