1240 AM
We welcome Father Paul Farin of Cross Catholic Outreach, who is speaking this weekend (October 14/15) at all Masses on behalf of the poor in developing countries. Cross Catholic Outreach was founded to create a meaningful link between parishes in America and the priest and nuns working in the Church overseas in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Central and South American.
To all my sons and daughters in Christ! Over time, a number of people have addressed the following question to me and to the Staff: What is the Mass Intention ‘For the People’ and why is it always on Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. Mass? As you may know, it is a great and powerful spiritual gift to offer a Mass Intention for a specific person or need. The way this is done is to come to the Parish Office and make an offering of $10 for a particular intention at a particular Mass. In this way, you take the fruit of your work (your money) and concretely unite it to the fruit of the Mass (the infinite grace of God) which makes for a powerful offering for any intention, especially the soul of a beloved dead, who can no longer pray for themselves. You may notice that on a number of the high Holy Days (Christmas, Easter, All Saints) and on the anniversaries of their deaths, I make sure that the Mass intention is for our former Bishops and Pastors – Msgr. Felix, Fr. Arnie and Fr. Mike. The Church has a universal law that requires the Pastor of every parish to make sure that, on every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation, a Mass is offered Pro Populo or For the People. The intention of this Mass is for every member of the parish, living and dead. The reason the Church requires this is so that no member of the parish, living or dead, is deprived of this special grace from God. Some people cannot afford to offer Mass intentions, some people have no one to pray for them, some people simply forget. The Mass For the People ensures that all receive this immense grace and gift of the fruit of the Mass.
CONTINUED IN NEXT COLUMN
Saint Cecilia Catholic Church offers the Mass For the People every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. This ensures that the largest number of the worshipping parish is present to unite their prayers for the good of the entire parish. I appreciate the devotion that people have to this immense spiritual good. I know that sometimes it can be hard to find a date for a Mass intention. This is a sign of the great love that people in our parish have for the souls of their beloved dead and their families. I’m sorry if you can’t always get the date you want but know that, any time a Mass is offered for an intention, tremendous grace is poured out from the Heart of Jesus for that person. Know that I will be returning to the Parish late on Wednesday, October 18 and will be back, fully functioning, in the Parish Office on Friday, October 20. I love you all like Jesus! Fr. Eric

Question of the week: What specific threads of “charity in action” are woven together to fashion the “wedding garment” needed for my presence at Jesus’ feast? Is it time I got back to work at the proverbial loom?
FOOD PANTRY ITEMS NEEDED: Crackers, Kleenex, juice, gravy, pancake mix, syrup, laundry detergent, kids’ cereal, cereal bars, Jiffy mix, canned fruit, Tuna and Hamburger Helper, canned meat and fish, ketchup, mustard, mayo, soup (not tomato), canned spaghetti, pudding, Jell-O, and cake mixes. Items can be dropped off at the Parish Office during regular business hours. Thank you.
In today’s Gospel, we hear Jesus say: “Many are invited, but few are chosen.” To give thanks for all that God has given to you, have you considered answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?
“We must do what is agreeable to God. We must do what Our Lord Jesus Christ
did when preaching the Gospel. Let us go to the poor. Let us learn of Him.”
~~ Frederic Ozanam
